Eggs are highly nutritious food. They are easily available and simple to cook. Eggs taste great and are healthy too. There are oodles of reasons to eat an egg.


Nutrients in egg

Eggs are an abundant source of nutrition. Eggs are easily available and are light on the wallet too. Eggs contain almost all the essential vitamins and minerals needed by the human body. Other than that eggs have many other health benefiting components.

Eggs are the richest source of protein. A person consuming eggs receives a good amount of vitamin A which is essential for normal growth and development, vitamin D which is necessary for health of the bones, vitamin E which repairs cells and Vitamin B2 which is required for normal blood formation.

Eggs contain protein, calcium, zinc, iron, iodine and essential fatty acids. Though high on vitamins and minerals, a single egg has 75 calories. Iron is required for red blood cell formation and zinc is required for the normal function of the immune system.

Eggs also have folic acid in abundance. Folic acid prevents birth defects related to the brain and spinal cord. Women having eggs in their diet during pregnancy fight birth defects effectively. For those who are not eggitarians must consult their doctor for a substitute.

Eggs boost immune system. Adding eggs to your diet will help you fight common cold and flu. The immunity boosting nutrients in egg improves resistance power.


How many eggs you should eat

There are no specific rules regarding the numbers of eggs we should consume. Eggs contain high quantity of cholesterol. Accumulation of cholesterol in the blood can lead to heart diseases. If you are regularly consuming eggs then your diet intake is quite healthy.

Nutritionists suggest that you can consume three eggs in a week to receive adequate health benefits. Egg yolks are high on cholesterol as compared to egg white. An egg is so rich in nutrients that one should prefer having eggs in a diet instead of opting for vitamin supplements.

Doctors advise eating raw egg if a patient is recovering from illness. Consumption of the raw egg yolks make digestion easy, increase stamina and resistance power. Thus it helps to combat weakness after the recovery from illness. It is not advisable to eat raw egg whites. Pregnant women must avoid eating raw eggs as it may lead to bacterial infections.


How to get the most out of an egg

An egg is a tasty and healthy food but you should never compromise on the quality of eggs while purchasing them. While buying eggs, check for cracks. Examine the entire surface of the egg shell for the cracks or scratches. Always store eggs in the refrigerator, in the cartons or in the space provided.


Easy ways to eat an egg

The easiest ways to consume an egg is having boiled egg, poached egg or scrambled egg. Boiled egg is healthier than an omelette. There are lots of recipes you can make out of a single egg. Cooking with egg is fast and egg recipes make quick breakfasts, delicious main course and mouth-watering deserts.

Eggs are affordable and can be cooked easily. A single egg can provide you important nutrients. Make them a part of your diet to stay healthy. You will never be weak if you have three eggs a week.
