 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am 24 years old and am 15 weeks pregnant. What are these tests like the triple marking test done to detect Down's Syndrome and neural tube defects? Are these necessary at my age? Some of my friends who have taken the test had to go through a lot of tension because of wrong results.

Jazbi (Pittsburgh, USA )

A: At your age, there is no risk of Down's Syndrome or neural tube defect unless you have a family history of both. If yes, then get triple test and sonography done. Sonography will reveal neural tube defect if it is present.Dr. Zaveri

Q: I have been married for a year, and am two months pregnant. Everything is normal now, but I am confused regarding routine checkups and vaccines. What needs to be done?

Alka (Miami, USA)

A: Go to a gynaecologist and also do get a sonography done to see if all is well. You will need to do some blood. Take iron and vitamin supplements like iron, B-complex and calcium. You will need an anti-tetanus shot as well.
