Parents need to get on the internet for their work and for communications. Children mostly use it for their school work. However, if your son is spending too much time on the internet it is right of you to be worried. Without sounding paranoid, the world is full of paedophiles looking for victims on the internet. There is also pornography available there to suit every kind of taste and kink.

Some of the warning signs that your son is not just doing his homework are: that he is spending more and more time on the net, that he is doing so behind closed doors and that he mentions names of people he has come into contact with on the net.

Internet Safety Measures

You would need to take some of the following precautions:

Do Right Placement of Computer -

You need to advantageously place the computer in the house. It should not be in your son’s room. You could either try your own room, or better still in a place which is like the thoroughfare of your home. Face the screen outward if possible, so that any passer by can see it.

Use Child Safety Software -

Today, you get several kinds of software to block certain sites. Do invest in this software. Please note that the installation of this software simply prevents easy or accidental access to the sites. Your son will be quite able to get onto a site containing pornography if he is determined to do so.

Discourage Online Chatting -

Discourage your son from on-line chatting. He must know better than to give out his number, address, photograph or personal details. Of course, if he is already chatting, he should never make the mistake of fixing to meet this person.

As a rule you should check the sites he has visited. Lastly, do get him into a hobby, so that he does not turn to the computer, TV or cell phone for entertainment.
