Parents Who Raise Good Children Do These 10 Things

Is it a hard time for you to get your children to listen? Try the below mentioned tips and you will surely see the difference in their behaviour.

Getting kids to listen is one of the most daunting tasks, isn’t it? But have you ever analysed what makes them disobey the instructions? Kids often don’t listen when things don’t happen their way. They don’t listen when, they don’t get the things they want or they don’t get to be how they want to be. But, it is not always their fault. Sometime, they may not be in a mood to listen if they are hungry or tired. It can also happen that they are deprived of attention. Another reason may be that they may not be exposed to good listening behaviour so they may start following the suit.
Poor listening in children is a common problem that is faced by parents across the globe. So, if you are getting anxious day-by-day due to such behaviour of your child, you must surely follow the below mentioned tips.

Are Your Kids Not Listening to You? Try These Tips!

Here is what to you can do to get your kids to listen to you.

Get Into their Shoes

It is very important to get into the shoes of children and understand their problem if you really want them to listen to you. Understanding what children are going through is the first step towards getting them behave the right way. After getting down to their level, it is equally important to express that you understand their plight. Showing understanding behaviour will surely develop the similar behaviour pattern on their part and eventually they will start listening to you.

Always Talk Positive

Always talk in a positive tone with your children. Frame positive sentences if you want to tell your children to do something. Avoid using words like “No”, “Stop”, “Don’t” etc. Try to give instructions to your children without using these kinds of negative words.

Avoid Yelling or Screaming

When children do not listen to what parents say, it is natural for them to lose their cool. In this situation some parents even start yelling and screaming at their children to get their attention. However, such behaviour on part of parents can make the situation even more stressful. So, instead of yelling or screaming, parents must try to convey their message by talking calmly with them.

Try to Connect Emotionally

If you want to get your children to listen to you, it is equally important to connect with them emotionally. Gently pat their back or hold their hand and say what you want to say by maintaining eye contact. Show that they are important to you and you always want good to happen to them.

Encourage Good Listening Behaviour

You must have heard the saying “As you sow, so shall you reap”. So, if you want your children to listen to you, you must model good listening behaviour. Don’t ignore your children, when they come to you to tell something. If you ignore them and do not give important to what they are saying, they are surely going to do the same to you.

Avoid Forcing Your Children

If you notice that your child is not listening to you at all, avoid grabbing his or her attention forcefully. Cut the communication at that point of time. Avoid talking too much in the heat of the moment as it can irritate your child and even you can get frustrated because of it. So, take a pause and allow your child a break. Go back to your child after sometime and talk to him or her calmly.

Coping with children who don’t listen is very painful for parent. But getting hyper is not the right solution. Being calm and patient and following a positive parenting approach is the key to deal with difficult, disobedient and apathetic children.
