Six Positive Ways to Get Your Kids to Listen to You

Six Positive Ways to Get Your Kids to Listen to You

Does your child refuse to listen to you? Here are six positive ways you can get your child to listen.

Many a times, kids refuse to listen. Children are often influenced by the media, movies, etc. They learn behaviour from various celebrities, actors, etc. They copy the behaviour of various television characters. Here are a few ways to get kids to listen to you.

1. Encourage Kids to Have Good Role Models

Ensure that children have good role models. They should not watch too much of television as it influences them a lot. Keep a watch on the kind of people your child socializes with. If they have friends who are adamant, bossy, etc then they too will become like that. Ensure that your kids are influenced by positive characters and not negative ones. Tell them stories with good moral values instead of exposing them to much of internet, etc.

2. Do Not Spank Them

Do not use much force and do not spank kids if they refuse to listen. They will certainly listen to you after a while. Ignore them for a little while and they will come to you running. Kids will always remain kids. They always need mom and dad no matter how old they grow. Spanking and hitting will do no good and can make them more adamant. Use gentleness while dealing with kids. Ensure that you do not get too angry or violent if they refuse to listen as it will only upset both of you.

3. Have a Positive Tone

Have a positive tone while explaining to kids. Do not criticize them too much. Use nice language when you are addressing them. Be loving to them and they will respond in the same way. Kids always respond well when they are addressed with respect, love and affection. They too are humans. Encourage them to be good. Praise them when they listen and display good behaviour. Use nice words while talking. Do not hurt them.

4. Do Not Allow Excuses

Do not allow room for laziness and do not allow them to make excuses. If children refuse to get up and do something, then tell them that being lazy is not good. Ask them to do things immediately rather than postponing. Teach them the value of time and the value of doing work immediately rather than delaying. Catch them if they lie. They should not learn to lie and make excuses to get away. Tell them that parents always want the best for children and so it is good for them if they listen to parent’s advice.

5. Give Them Time

Give children time to do various activities. Sometimes, they are also busy with something else. For example, it is not reasonable to make kids get up and do something when they are busy completing homework. Do not expect them to do everything you say as and when you want. Parents should also be a bit understanding. Do not nag them as nagging encourages wrong behaviour. Do not allow tantrums.

6. Let Them Learn

People often learn from their own mistakes. Let children make mistakes and learn if they refuse to listen to you. You can tell them once or twice however one cannot repeatedly order older children. Older children will learn on their own. It is the younger ones who are still unable to differentiate between wrong and right. Children learn from their own decisions and choices. So,even if they do not listen to you, they will learn from their own experience.

These are a few ways to get kids to listen to you. Many a time, children always want to what they like. They are obstinate and rebellious. Such behaviour should not be taken lightly. Speak to your kid’s teacher and regularly find out how they are in school. Ensure that they have a positive and good environment.

It is necessary to make children understand the difference between what is good and what is bad in the early childhood itself so that they listen.
