Managing a Toddler While Pregnant

Managing a Toddler While Pregnant

Simple adjustments can help you in managing a toddler while pregnant with ease. Find out how to take care of your health and that of your unborn child while managing a toddler.

When you have a toddler at home booming with energy, it surely is a tough task to handle situations as a pregnant lady. But since this is a situation, whose reality you have already considered, it is now time to accept the facts and plan the time with a bit of patience, intelligence and yes, you also do need support. The first trimester of pregnancy is generally filled with symptoms like morning sickness. There can be a day-long feeling of nausea and feeling exhausted is not unusual. So managing a toddler does become a difficult task. You are required to provide the toddler with the desired attention and care that he demand and at the same time ensure that your health is not neglected. Here are some ways that can help you see through the difficult times:

Shift Focus from Housework to Yourself

New moms are generally busy in managing the baby and the house, they are on a mission to set things in order that they feel have been going haywire since their last pregnancy and delivery. It is surely a good idea to take care of the house and managing affairs, but when you are pregnant with your next baby, you must realise that you must lead a stress-free and less exhausting life as much as possible. So utilise the time to take care of your health and besides you also have to take notice of the well-being of your toddler. So conserve energy for these activities and do not spend them on other activities that can still be shared by someone else.

Keep the Playtimes Low-Key

During your pregnancy, especially the first trimester, there is a general sense of fatigue in the body. So make sure that your regular playtime with your toddler is not draining out your energy further. The toddler has endless energy now, but you do not. So realise this fact and try planning and playing and engaging the little one in activities that are interesting, aid development while at the same time, are easy on you. Decide on the ones that are of mutual interest like music or reading books or sketching and drawing.

Adjust Your Sleep Schedule with That of Your Toddler

You need to adjust your sleeping patterns so that they go in sync with that of your toddler. Go to sleep when he sleeps; as he would be holding your attention for most of the time that he is awake. So take advantage when your toddler goes to sleep and take rest that is so needed by your body during pregnancy. Do not sue the time for other household works, but use that as your rest or “me” time.

Seek Help

Pregnancy is a tough time. And when you already have a toddler at home, the condition is double exhausting and difficult for you. Be practical, and there is no need to take it up as a supposed challenge that you can deal with it alone. It is natural for you to seek help. So, whenever you feel that you need a helping hand, be it from your spouse, any relative or a friend, be clear in stating the fact. They will only be happy to help you. At times, people may not realise unless they are told, so make sure that you are doing your part in taking care of your health and that of your unborn child. Women go through a lot of emotional stress during this phase, so you should also seek the help of a counsellor, if necessary.

Finally, you must remind yourself that this is a temporary condition, and as soon as the delivery happens, things will change and your little toddler will also grow up further. Therefore, the situation will not only change but be better for both of you. And not only that, the period of the first trimester is most harrowing one, in terms of your nauseating feelings, mood swings and stressed feeling, but the subsequent months will be less tiring as the condition of your body will simultaneously change. Normalcy will be restored in your routine soon enough.
