During winters you must include certain foods in your child’s diet that can help to build their immunity. Let us take a look at some foods that your children should eat during winters.

When the temperature drops during winter months, it becomes more important to focus on the adequate nutrition your kids should be getting this winter. Winter is a great time to introduce fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables in your child’s diet. The fresh flavours of the green vegetables served hot on the plate are not only tempting, but also have a lot of benefits for your kids. Here is a list of few foods that will keep your kids happy and healthy during winter.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower is one of the most delicious seasonal vegetables of winter. It contains loads of phytochemicals and helps in preventing inflammation in kids. It is rich in vitamins A, K, C, and many B-vitamins. It is also rich in essential minerals, such as magnesium, manganese, potassium, and a small amount of protein – which are helpful for healthy growth and development for your kids. It also contains fibre that promotes easy digestion in your kid’s body. You can be creative in cooking various cauliflower recipes for your children; there are so many options – roasted cauliflower, cauliflower and tomato curry, dry fried cauliflower with potatoes, cauliflower parathas and many.

Lentils

Lentils are good sources of energy for your kids during winter. Serve your kids a bowl of lentil curry with onions and tomatoes and mild spices garnished with fresh coriander leaves – your kids would love it. Lentils are a great source of proteins that help build immunity in your kids; they improve digestive health as they are loaded with fibres; they also have vitamin C that may help your kids to fight off the cold during winter; lentils also have iron that are essential for carrying oxygen to the different parts of the body and keeping your kid’s body healthy and warm.

Sweet Potatoes

Whether you want to grill them or bake them or fry them – your kids will never say ‘no’ to sweet potatoes – yes they are so tasty as their mild sweet taste works out well in any kind of recipes, and they are abundant during winter. Sweet potatoes contain vitamin A, which is very important in boosting good vision in your kids. They also contain potassium that is important for healthy growth and development of your kids. They are also a great source of fibre, thus easing digestion and boosting metabolism in your kids.

Sprouts

Sprouts are a great addition to your kid’s diet during winter. They are high in nutrition as they are loaded with vitamin C and other minerals that are very important for your kid to stay healthy even during winter. They also help in digestion by regulating bowel movement in your kids.
You can mix boiled and fresh green chana, whole green moong, etc. with finely cut onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, and a dash of lime and make an exciting sprout salad for your kid during winter.

Citrus Fruits

Winter welcomes a wide array of fresh citrus fruits in the market, such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons, pomegranates, etc. These healthy winter fruits have a healthy dose of vitamin A and vitamin C – both of them play important role in your kid’s growth and development and a healthy body of course. Vitamin A helps in good vision and strong bones, while vitamin C is helpful in repairing bones,blood cells, and tissues.
