Here are some activities that you can carry out with your kids during winters.Winters are a challenging time for most parents in keeping their children active, especially for moms. Kids tend to get glued to the T.V. and books and absorbed in board games which can be maneuverer from the comfort of the quilt. So, exercising and going outdoors for sports is out of the question, especially if the temperatures go under a certain comfort level.
So what can moms do?
Hmmm..., get creative!
Yes be innovative! Make the indoor scene fun for your kids. Be creative and adopt games as physical activities. Engage children in role playing in imaginary games so that they get adequate
exercise without thinking that they are actually exercising! Try the play way method so that the smiling curves and adrenalin rush goes up!!! Here are a few ideas that may help…
1. Follow the Active Leader!
Create the ambiance for your kids. You can either engage in playing as rescuers and take turns in playing the leaders. Use ladders to climb and rescue the imaginary victims. Build tunnels in which you can crawl, working out your abs and legs and the big muscles.
Keep an area over which you have to jump and get across. Pretend that there is a scary item in one of the imaginary rooms and the retreat has to be done in much shorter time so that the team may reach the original destination in time or the leader will lose his turn. So the activity becomes more strenuous. You can keep a digital watch to make it more fun.
Turn your family room into a fort. The warriors have to climb through and fight the imaginary creatures. The parents must also engage in the activity and play along. You can use pillows and cushions as weapons to encourage more intensive exercise.
3. Dance Dance Dance!
Dance to keep fit. Music gets everyone going and is a great mood transformer. Use current and old music styles. Make it fun, silly, cut and naughty. But definitely make the fun activity vigorous and entertaining. Enjoy the precious time with kids. Alternatively you can join dance classes with your kids.
4. Boot Camp Exercises
Keep 45 minutes to an hour of active exercises along with yoga. Include jumping jacks, sit-ups, crunches, breathing exercises, push-ups, etc.
5. Turn Truth-Dare Game into an Active Game
Each turn that calls for punishment, keep exercises as the penalty. You can keep a doable range of push-ups, sit-ups, Jumping Jacks, etc. as the penalty in being off the point.
6. Walk Together
Make a group and go for early evening walks before it gets dark. It is fun, to keep good pace. Time it so that the purpose is not defeated.
7. Other Indoor Games
There are other games as indoor swimming, badminton, tennis, squash etc. if you have the facilities.
The above activities will also help to
boost immunity of your children during
winters. Besides fun games,
keep healthy fun foods including delicious salads, fruits and soups so that the unhealthy snacks are kept down. Healthy foods can be low in empty calories, just keep yourself and your kid away from the high fat and high sugar diet. Replace gooey sweets with tasty fruity deserts and yogurt ice creams and healthy smoothies, shakes, Badaam and Kesar milk varieties.
Kids learn by example so eat healthy and feed healthy!
Tackling the winter is no problem if you are mentally flexible in making the season healthy and pleasant for all. The dull winters will be transformed into fun and active days with a bit of furniture manoeuvring, creativity and group participation. You can brighten up the gloomy days… Stay Active!
