An audiologist is a medical professional who specializes in ear and the sense of hearing so any problem related to hearing should be referred to an audiologist. An audiologist is an expert in hearing related problems. An audiologist conducts different tests to diagnose hearing problems and based on the results of the tests gives advice to prevent further deterioration in hearing. Read on.

An audiologist is a professional tasked with the job to examine the ears and the condition of hearing of people. He is essentially equipped to offer the required and feasible advice on how the ears can be taken good care of along with the methods that would protect ad enhance one’s hearing faculties. Basically, an audiologist is medical professional who has all answers to all queries related to your sense of hearing.

Besides these issues, an audiologist is required to deal with a host of other aspects like one’s sense of balance. This is a very important aspect as the structures that are positioned deep inside a person’s ears can affect his or her sense of balance in a major way. Balance is not just a physical phenomenon and a person’s gait and feeling of equilibrium can be normal or abnormal depending upon his sense of balance. This is an important domain in the treatment field of the audiologist.

An Audiologist is Not a Medical Doctor

An audiologist is not a conventional medical doctor due to the fact that they are different from an ENT specialist or the Otorhinolaryngolists. Otorhinolaryngolists are medical practitioners who are specifically equipped to deal with the varied conditions of the ear, nose and throat. They are more of an holistic problem solver. An audiologist on the other hand have a far more detailed and intricate knowledge on how a human ear works and functions and are fully aware about the invariable different conditions that can affect its proper functioning.

How Does an Audiologist Work?

An audiologist conducts a series of tests to ascertain and localize a certain problem with great precision. When dealing with a certain ear condition, they can distinctly understand whether the problem lies in the outer ear, the ear drum, the inner ear, or is it the nerves that are responsible for sending and receiving the impulses are actually affected. They can test the brain and the nervous system as they play a major role in a hearing process.

An audiologist is consulted when a person is suffering from hearing loss. After they conduct the tests and diagnose the problem, they offer expert advice on how they can effectively protect their hearing from further deterioration. They suggest protective and corrective methods after considering the individual’s personal and professional background that is, their line of work which are actually found to be a major cause in bringing about the hearing loss.

The corrective methods recommended by audiologist can comprise of the usage of procedures like customizing and fitting of hearing aids and depending on the condition of the patient, he can also medically refer the patient to surgeons for the facial correction of specific facial deformities or abnormalities that are related to hearing.

My 2 years daughter is not able to speak, I showed her to a doctor who said that she may be having hearing problems. Please help me find a doctor whom to consult and what are the investigations which i need to do before we meet this doctor.
