Jonathan my 2 year old is an Indian Chinese and English and we speak english, cantonese and hindi. We were having a barbaque and he asked his "dada when are the prawns cooked" and my husband replied "yat crook jau sook" but to my 2 year old. his understanding of 'cook' n 'sook' means the food is ready to eat and he just looked at my husband and said' it mens the same dada'.

Our daughter Reina is 1yr old now. We have bought few cardboard books for her. We have taught her 'Tomato' and 'Onion' and she knows to pronounce them well. Whenever we ask her to say 'Tomato' she'll say 'Onion'. So one day I asked her to say 'Onion' with a hope that she would say 'Onion' but immediately she said 'Tomato'. We all burst out in laughter and wonder of how she could think and say the other word purposely. Same thing happens with A, B, C... Whenever we ask her to say A, She'll say B.

This morning, I had to punish my daughter for talking back rudely. Later in the evening she went down to play with her friends. I had to run a few errands, so as I came down the stairs I heard her telling her friends loudly, “here comes my step-mom.” I asked her why she would say a thing like that.
