Dear Hari Hara Sharma, You have adopted within family. This is also known as Dattak. It’s difficult to answer your query in detail as telling a child about the facts of adoption is a process. I can only suggest that tell your child first what is the meaning of adoption and then in few weeks about the facts. You should take help of one to one counseling for u and your wife in this…Do not take your child to the counselor… Good luck

am in India and the child is a boy 8 years old. Very brilliant and sensitive kid. The thing is that my brothers wife conceived and wanted to undergo abortion at that stage my wife requested if she could give us the child since they already have 2 kids one boy and a girl. After discussion with elders parents of mine/wife parents/ and brothers wifes parents they agreed for the pregnancy to continue on a condition that we take from day one all nine months my wife took care of her and the day the boy was given to us. All medical exp also borne by us. On 7th day of birth a legal adoption was done as per indian laws. Fom his birth till date with us. The child does not know about his adoption and we would like to tell the fact to him in a nice manner not to hurt him how and when should we do this. I am now based at mozambiqe and wife and kid in india. They will be with me for a vacation for 2 months kindly guide if possible

Good article, but why did the author say you should never tell the child directly about their birth history? What if the child asks questions? Should parents lie? I didn't understand this advice.
