Deep red tomatoes are the best. Tomatoes in dark and bright colours provide outstanding nutritional benefits. Make sure the tomatoes you buy have smooth skin with no cracks or wrinkles. Tomatoes are sensitive to cold. So store them at room temperature keeping them away from sunlight. If you are unable to consume them and you find that they are getting overripe, keep them in refrigerator preferably in the butter section.

Ketchup is also a good source of tomato nutrients together with Lycopene. However, if you buy ketchup, prefer using organic ketchup for best results. This will not only save you from harmful pesticides in tomatoes, but also help you get more Lycopene.

Tomatoes can be consumed raw or cooked along with other vegetables. It enhances the taste of all vegetables. Addition of tomatoes to salads increases the taste and helps decorate the salad plates too. They help to make great sandwiches as well. Now a days pesticides are used indiscriminately so I do not think that it is a good idea to have raw tomatoes. One should have cooked tomatoes only and they are equally beneficial.

Tomatoes are integral part of Indian cooking. It is used in salads, chutneys and curries. So we Indians do have our daily dose of antioxidants and reap the health benefit of tomatoes.
