In the 1 to 2 years

In the 1 to 2 years

During the second year your baby will master many skills and especially the skill of talking. Let us take a look at the milestones that your baby will attain during the second year of her development.
This is the time when your baby will master the most difficult skills. She will learn to walk independently. The skill of walking is mastered by children by the seventeenth month of their growth and development. With the attainment of every milestone you need to be extra alert and careful. Here is what you can expect during the second year of your baby’s growth and development.

Child’s Development during the Second Year

During the second year, your baby will consolidate the physical skills she has learned in the first year and she will master one of the most difficult intellectual skills - speech.

Fifteen Months

She will want to brush her own hair and help you with household chores like dusting. She will understand the meaning of kissing and will kiss you on demand. She may not understand individual words, but will be able to comprehend quite complex sentences.

Eighteen Months

By now, your baby becomes quite self-sufficient and can amuse herself. She will be quite happy playing on her own. She will make up and down strokes with a pencil, imitating a writing motion. She will know the names of familiar objects and use them with meaning.

How to Aid Baby’s Development during Second Year

Here is what you can do to aid your baby’s growth and development during the second year.

Toys

Toys play an important role during every stage of child’s development. But it is a must to get toys that suit your child’s age. Second year is the very exciting year and you will be delighted to see how your baby entertains herself with her toys. Your toddler will love playing with stacking toys, building blocks, push and pull toys, musical toys. You can also get ride-on toys for your little one but make sure that such toys are safe for your child.

Books and Crayons

Board books and picture books are very helpful for the brain development of toddlers. You can also get story books and read aloud these stories to your toddler. Picture books can also stimulate the development of observational skills of a toddler. You can also get books and crayons for your toddler to allow her to scribble. This will be a good entertaining activity for your toddler. But make sure that your toddler does not put these crayons in her mouth.

Proper Diet

You must ensure that your toddler gets all the essential nutrients that are required for her right growth and development. Include foods like rice, dal, chappati, vegetables, fruits, eggs, milks, sprouts, mutton, fish etc; in the diet of your child. Make sure that you discuss the diet of your child with her paediatrician. Encourage self-feeding whenever possible and also watch-out for the choking hazards. Avoid foods that can cause choking hazards and allergies.
Allow your child to spend time freely playing but monitor her. You need to watch her closely and also childproof your house to prevent the risks. Spend quality time with her while playing with her, telling her stories, talking to her etc; to make your bond with her even stronger.

please never forget that every child is different. these are only a rough guideline. don't pressure your child or fell that you are a bad parent. give each milestone another 2/3 months before you start to worry. my brother-in-law didn't speak until he was3 and then came out with full sentences!

every child is different from the other child.they have their own learning abilities.they respond differently.we cant force them to do a particular thing unless we create interest for that thing in the child

each child is different and it's good to know that they learn on their own time and i have five children and they all achieved their learning goals at different times and it's a joy to see how each one reaches a milestone.
