Yoga for eyes helps to improve vision and prevent eye disorders. If you want to have healthy eyes and get relief from eye strain, you should practice yoga regularly. Read on to find more about the yoga asanas for eyes, tips for practicing yoga asanas for eyes and benefits of practicing eye yoga.

If you are a student or you have to spend a lot of time in front of computer, you need to take extra care of your eyes. By this time, you must have experienced how draining and tiresome this is on your eyes and the entire body as well. On the other hand, your eyes are considered as windows to your soul and so the health of your eyes reflects your overall health.

There are certain things that can help you improve the health of your eye and will also help you stay away from various eye disorders. Yoga asanas are extremely helpful here. There are certain asanas that are specially meant for improving eye health and if you learn about the facts and know how to perform those asanas, they will be of real help to you.

Instructions for Performing Yoga for Eyes

Follow these instructions while practicing yoga for eyes.

  • Sit comfortably with your backs straight on a straight chair.
  • Keep your legs uncrossed and hands on your laps.
  • Keep your neck straight and chin level horizontal.
  • Breathe normally and evenly throughout the exercise time.
  • Go for the exercise only as far as you find yourself comfortable.
  • After every change of yoga asana, close your eyes and give rest to them.

Steps for Practicing Yoga Asanas for Eyes

Sit straight and look upwards as far as you can. Hold there for three seconds and then let loose. Now look downwards as far as possible. Hold there for three seconds and then release. Similarly, you can look sideways one by one giving a relieving time of 2 – 3 seconds in between each change.

Once you have completed all the sides, take a rest for few seconds. Close your eyes and put your palms on them. Stay in the position for 5 – 7 seconds and then gently open your eyes. After this you can exercise your eyes by rotating them slowly and to the maximum extent. Just see to it that you are not straining your eyes.

Look at the tip of your nose and hold there for few seconds. This will help you exercise the inner eye muscles.

Besides all these exercises, some Pranayamas like Anulom Vilom, Bhastrika, Bhramari, Udgeet and few more are very beneficial for the health of your eyes. If you are able to meditate for some time, it will be useful for you and help you keep calm and cool.

The best thing about eye yoga is that it will help you do away with the eye strain and tension. You will find that your vision has improved and this is all because there will be better supply of blood. In addition to this, you should splash cool water in your eyes few times a day to keep it fresh and cool.

Benefits of Yoga for Eyes

A regular routine of yoga, Pranayamas and meditation not only helps improve eyesight and overall health of your eyes, it will help you achieve peace and tranquility as well. There are certain eye exercises that can completely rectify many of your eye disorders.
