Always be careful with maintaining the health of your eyes. In addition to cleanliness and some eye exercises, nutrition plays a very important role in keeping your eyes at good health. So, you need to know about the foods, vitamins and minerals that are vital for your vision and eye health.

Foods, Vitamins and Minerals for Eye Health

Vitamin A, E and C are good for eyes. Vitamin A is found in sweet potatoes, carrots and liver. This vitamin reduces the risk of cataracts and eye blindness. The deficiency of this vitamin also results in corneal ulcers and blindness. Vitamin E is found in nuts like almonds and hazelnuts. This vitamin reduces the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Vitamin C is found in oranges, lemon, strawberries and broccoli. This vitamin slows down occurrence of the age related eye problems, reduces pressure in Glaucoma and also reduces the risk of cataracts.

Besides vitamins, there are certain minerals like Zinc, Lutein and selenium that are extremely good for eye health. These are found in red meat, oysters, wheat, spinach and collard green. So, if you take proper care of your nutrition and eat healthy food items that are good for your eye health, this will help you have good vision and reduce the risks of different types of eye problems too.

Tips for Reducing Dark Circles and Puffy Eyes

Dark circles and puffy eyes are usually results of over strain on eyes and taking minimum rest as well. The best way is to give cool treatment and relaxation to the eyes.

  • You can keep slices of cucumber or potatoes in closed eyes.
  • Apply coconut oil and massage in the area in which dark circles have appeared.
  • A solution of glycerin and lemon juice also helps reducing dark circles around the eyes.
  • Apply a mixture of honey and saffron around the eyes. It has good and positive effects.
  • Keep ice cubes on puffy eyes.

Tips for Overall Health of Eyes

  • Take good and sound sleep of at least 8 hours daily.
  • Eat leafy vegetables, fruits and foods that are good for eye health.
  • Drink lots of water and splash cool water at least twice during day time.
  • If using contact lenses, follow the instructions to keep them clean and safe. Remove them before going to bed.
  • If using eye make-up, use user friendly cosmetics. Make sure they are comfortable and good for your eye health.
  • Yoga asanas especially Sarvaangasana is good for eye health.
  • Drink juice of carrot and cucumber with one teaspoon of honey added to it.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Protect your eyes with sunglasses when you go out in sun.
