What Toddlers Should Be Learning?

Is your baby going to enter toddler years? Toddler years are the most crucial years of your child’s life to learn. Are you curious to know what toddlers should be learning? Read on to find more about what toddlers should be learning.

There are a lot of things that a toddler should learn within the age of 15 – 18 months. In fact, the most important and crucial learning period of life is this and it depends on parents and the time they spend on their toddlers what they give them for their life. Right from the type of food you introduce, you can start teaching your child different types of games and skills as well.

Toddlers need motivation and inspiration. They are learning coordination of body parts with brain and also learning balance and coordination along with muscle control at this time of life. You can start teaching your toddler many things like kicking a ball or more complicated tasks as soon as he starts walking and running. Toddlers have a natural desire to keep on moving and you should take advantage of this and help him learn as much as possible.

What Should Toddlers Learn?

Here is what your child should be learning in toddler years.

Playing Games –

You can teach different types of games to your toddler by little motivation and inspiration. Remember, you will have to keep trying until he learns the skill. Do not get irritated as well as panic if your toddler learns slower than someone else. Every child is different and has different grasping power. Do not compare even with his elder brother or sister.

Eat on Own –

You can teach your toddler to start eating on his own as soon as possible. Just be prepared that he will spilt and spoil the food for first few days. These can extend to one or more months. Be prepared for the time taking process. Just pay attention to motivating and stimulating your toddler to do few things that you want him to do.

Developing Skills –

Toddlers play and learn in natural way. You can teach him about colours, put rings in the stand, make things from artificial dough, draw, colour and do many such things. You can leave him with a drawing book and crayons or help him draw and colour some specific things.

Reading –

Read out stories and bring books with big and attractive pictures in it. You will find lot of story books for toddlers. Today, you even have personalised books and this will definitely give in your child some interest. If you make a habit of reading a story at least once before bedtime, he will definitely develop reading habits and this will continue till his entire life.

Introduce to World Around Him –

Introduce your child to the world of geography and other subjects that he finds interest in. Explore his interest and let him explore the world on atlas. He will enjoy and learn almost everything before he goes to the school.

Getting Ready for School –

Teach your child to get ready for school. Do not make this too fast. This should start only after your child is able to manage things on his own. Teaching him to fetch right things, find right colours and feed himself are the first few steps of this training session. Always pay attention that you are doing this like a game so that the child is not pressured at any point.

Learning for a toddler is a vast field and so depending on the grasping power and your circumstances, you should start and proceed. Make sure your toddler enjoys the whole training session and takes everything as a game.

very informative article. Parents are very pushy, they force kids to learn what they think is right but this article has helped me to know what a toddler should learn.
