Personal interests differ from child to child. Normally, kids will be more interested in fun activities and playing. Apart from all that, as a parent, you need to notice you child’s hobbies and activities they particularly like to spend time doing.
Amongst various hobbies, writing is a hobby that is exceedingly appreciable. Children might lose interest in things they do not like and might consider the activity of writing as a part of his or her studies. But there are many ways you can encourage them to love writing and take it up as a hobby that they will enjoy being engaged with. Here are a few tips that will help.

1. Read to Your Child Everyday

The first step to writing is reading. All writers are regular readers. You can start by choosing a book your child likes or even something that is a tad bit above your child’s reading ability. Then take turns reading. Reading gives them an exposure to different kinds of words that they can use in their writing.

2. Acknowledge His or Her First Writings

Writing may not be very enjoyable to a child and hence they need all the encouragement. Even if they are naturally gifted, celebrate their first writings. No matter how small it might seem to be, even if it is a scribbled word or his or her name, it is something to be proud of. Sometimes, reward them for their efforts once in a while as well.

3. Make a Personal Writing Space for Your Child

Even though they say that, to write, all you need is a pen a paper and imagination, creating a perfect atmosphere is of utmost importance too. A writing space is one of the basic needs to write. Set up a quiet place for your child to write. You can choose a well illuminated corner or a space beside a window where he or she can sit in peace and write.

4. Allot a Certain Time in the Day to Write

Children do have an activity filled life. However, making a schedule or a routine is a good way to help your child lead a disciplined life. Apart from study time and play time, schedule a period of time in your day to teach your child to write.Utilize this time to also teach them spelling and grammar.

5. Provide Many Writing Tools

Writing tools are the main necessities for writing. Hence, provide them with a lot of proper writing tools. There are a various writing tools to choose from such as chalks, colourful pens, crayons, chalkboards and the like.

6. Publish their Writing

When your child gets a hang of the art of writing, submit their works in contests, children’s magazines and newspapers. This will not only provide them with an incentive to write but also be a source of encouragement.

7. Play Games

To make writing fun, play word games with your child that will help increase their knowledge of words, vocabulary and spelling.
There are many influential aspects that help develop a child’s interest with one of the main influence being the parent. As for instance, if you happen to be into writing, it might be easier for you to encourage your kids to write. Even if you happen to be musically inclined, they might develop an interest in music. The child’s knack for a certain activity is also important.
Most children love to draw and colour because they are more drawn to the activity but some might be exceptionally good in the art, which might make them all the more interested. Hence, even though writing is undoubtedly a very good hobby, it is important to let your child discover his or her own area of interest.
