Tips for Buying Maternity Wear

Tips for Buying Maternity Wear

When bodily changes take place in a woman during pregnancy, it becomes necessary for her to buy clothes in which she can be comfortable. Read on to find some tips for buying right kind of maternity wear during pregnancy.

Do not hide behind clothes when you are pregnant but rather flaunt those clothes to celebrate the beautiful phase that your body is going through. It is completely unnecessary to hide the beautiful presence of life in your body by hiding behind tent like clothing. Maternity shopping can be tricky but here is how you can manage it smartly.

Checking for Sizes

Most women do not know this but buying maternity clothes according to your current size does not mean that you will buy clothes that are two sizes bigger. In fact most good maternity wear retail lines sell maternity sizes that reflect regular clothing size patterns. For example if you wear medium size clothing then this time you will be buying ‘M’ sized maternity wear dresses.
In case you are shopping for maternity wear designer jeans then the same principle applies there too. You will still need to buy size 30 in maternity jeans if you normally wear size 30. Being pregnant alters the shape of your body and you will look different than if you simply put on some weight. Therefore, it is a mistake to just buy maternity wear thinking that you have put on weight. Wearing bigger sized clothes will make you look dowdy as they will not be as well tailored as perfectly tailored maternity clothing. Most leading maternity wear designer wear sell classy clothes which have extra cloth and detailing like stretch belly panels, empire waist lines and these flatter the body.

Focus on the Timing

Since you are not going to be pregnant forever it does not usually make a lot of sense to invest a lot of money on buying designer maternity wear which will be super expensive. Stylists advise pregnant women to get two maternity designer wear pieces; one for work and the other for parties and fulfil all other temporary sartorial requirements by focusing on the timing and making purchases as and when needed.
In case your partner wears bigger sized clothing than you do, you can borrow his clothes. Button up shirts is a very safe and comfortable option and so can be loose cotton T-shirts.
Invest in a belly button device which is basically a piece of elastic with many buttons on it. You can wear the belly button and automatically widen pants and skirts. All you have to do is to wear a loose flow top on your upper body.
Instead embrace the current trend of flaunting the baby bump. Work on the best features of your body like buying a flirty cute skirt which shows off your great legs or a cut sleeves dress that allows you to flaunt your toned arms. If you are proud of your jaw line and décolletage then wear an intricately designed neckline.
Accessories like statement neck pieces and scarves also draw attention away from the problem areas of your body like the thighs and the tummy. However, it is best to invest in pieces that you can continue to use after your pregnancy too.

Bras and Shoes

Generally when maternity shopping is discussed most women forget to consider shoes. It is very important that you buy flat soled (preferably) and comfortable shoes to last you through your pregnancy. Boots with comfortable soles, slippers with good grip and tough sandals are a good choice for maternity foot wear shopping. In case your feet have a tendency to swell during pregnancy, buy shoes that are one size bigger.
Also it is very important to stock up on maternity specific underwear for your pregnancy. Buy knickers in bulk that are cheap and bras which are one to two sized bigger. Buy 2-3 nursing bras too as you will need them immediately after your delivery and you will not have time to shop then. Enjoy this phase of maternity shopping as this too is a beautiful part of your pregnancy.

Is it necessary to buy maternity wear? When is the right time to start buying maternity wear? Women can find themselves comfortable in what kind of clothes? Discuss here.
