Helping children with homework is one of the greatest ways to get involved in the academics of children. Here is what parents can do.

Are you aware that children whose parents take more interest in their studies are more successful in their academics? By spending time helping children with homework you will also get an opportunity to learn new and interesting things. So, make helping children with
homework fun, interesting and a happy experience for both of you. Here some tips that can help.

Helping Children with Homework

Here is what you can do to help your children with homework.

Make Sure that Your Child Eats Well

Make sure that the child has eaten enough of food before he or she starts studying. He or she must be able to sit comfortably for at least two hours. Ensuring that your child is well fed will help him or her get the energy that is required to read, write and concentrate well on studies.

Set-Up a Comfortable Place

Help your child choose a place that is homework friendly. Ensure that the place that he or she chooses is comfortable for him or her to sit for studying. Arrange a proper desk for him or her to study well.

Fix Proper Timings

Evening time is a good time to sit with children and help them with studies. This is the time when they get refreshed and are more energetic. So, use this time to help them to put their energies in the right direction.

Avoid Distractions

Children get distracted very easily. So, make sure that the place that is chosen is away from distractions. Discuss only those things which are related to studies and homework during this time. Maintain a proper discipline at home while your child is studying.

Motive Your Child

Set proper homework milestones for your child and give him or her little gifts that can help him or her to get motivated. Little gifts can be anything. It can be a new rubber or a new pencil or cute little things that your child may love to have.

Praise Him or Her

Praise your child for the good work that he or she is doing. Praise him or her for the milestones that he or she has achieved.

Seek Help

Sometimes it may happen that your child may not write the homework. It is easy to cope with such situations once in a while. However, if it becomes a habit, you may have to get in touch with teacher to solve the issue.

Other Things to Remember

Take a quick look at some things that can help to improve your child’s focus on studies.

  • If your child is unable to focus in the beginning, increase time little-by-little.

  •  In the beginning, you can start with one hour and then increase the time gradually.

  • Try to talk softly and calmly as much as you can.

  • If your child does not understand something, try some other simple ways to teach him or her.

  • Give your child his or her own space to learn.

  • Make homework and study time a stress free experience for your child.

Doing homework regularly can really help children to revise what is taught in school. And revision is very important to remember what is taught forever. Doing homework is not enough. It is necessary to revise other things that are taught in school as well. Do remember one thing, along with doing homework and revisions, it is necessary to give some time to do extracurricular activities as well.
