Birbal Shortens the Journey

Birbal Shortens the Journey

Can anybody shorten a road? Birbal did this for Emperor Akbar. Birbal used his intelligence and thus shortened the road when Akbar was travelling to Azabgarh. Do you know how this was possible? Read on.
One day emperor Akbar and his courtiers had to go to Azabgarh for a conference. Early morning king Akbar and his courtiers left for the place. It was very hot and sunny that day. King Akbar was very tired travelling in his palanquin under the blazing sun.

After some time the Emperor gave up and said, “Oh God, I am very tired of this journey. It is such a long way! How will we reach? Can somebody shorten this road for me?”

All the other courtiers were confused. They looked at each other and thought that how could anybody shorten the road? This is the only path that will take them to Azabgarh.

At that moment Birbal replied, “Yes your majesty! I can”.

The emperor was happy and relieved. He asked, “You can really do it?

“Yes” said Birbal.

“Alright then do it” Akbar said

“Definitely Sir, but you have to listen to a story” Birbal said.

The emperor agreed and Birbal began his story. He rode besides the King’s palanquin and recited a very intriguing story. The king and the courtiers found the story very interesting. They were listening to it carefully noting every twist and turn in it. Finally when the story ended the King and the courtiers realised that they were already at the end of the journey.

“We have reached” King Akbar said in a happy tone.

To this Birbal replied “Yes we have Sir, you asked me to shorten the path for you, so I did it”
