Mistakes of Parents Who Are Too Soft With Kids

Parenting style has changed a lot in past few decades and many believe that parents are becoming too soft with their kids. It is true to some extent and is doing little bit of harm to the next generation. Read on to learn about the mistakes of parents who are too soft with kids.

Today parents are too soft and they give in to their kids' desires very easily. There are many reasons behind this behaviour of parents and so pin pointing this aspect of parenting becomes important. They are either over involved and become overprotective and over functioning or are ‘do not care’ kind of parents who just make sure their kids get what they need and wish. Here are some mistakes parents who are too soft with their kids make.

1. Make Child Centred Home

Many parents make child centred home. Everything that is done is after keeping in mind the child which makes them selfish and think extremely high of themselves.

2. Praising Often

Kids like to be praised but if this becomes a habit, they will do nothing without praise. This will restrict them to perform at their best in life. Also, they will not be open to getting pointed out their mistakes which will hamper their growth and stop them from improving themselves even in future.

3. Fulfilling Unreasonable Demands

All parents want to see their kids happy and enjoying their lives. So, they fulfil even the unreasonable demands of the child. Prepare your child to face the reality that he or she will not always get what he or she wants and nothing comes for free. This will last long and help him or her in life.

4. Believing Kids to be Perfect

It is good to trust your child, but having blind faith will do more harm than good. Parents nowadays do not want to listen negative about their kids. However, truth can hurt and so listening with open head and mind will help you work for your child's benefits.

5. Getting Over Involved in Kid's Life

Parents get over involved in their kid's life and forget where their life starts. It is fine to love your children, but give them some space and have your own enjoyment and recreation as well. Balancing is the most important thing that you should understand after having kids.

6. Not Limiting Screen Time for Kids

As a parent you know there are many disadvantages of watching TV or being in front of the screen, but you cannot limit the screen time because you are too soft. Be firm and consistent when it comes to limiting screen time.

7. Not Letting Kids Get Bored

Getting bored is a natural feeling. Everyone gets bored at times. Soft parents do whatever they can to make their kid happy. Instead, you should let them have some casual time or encourage them to get engaged in different activities.

8. Protecting Kids Always

Parents do not want their kids to get hurt. So, they do every little thing for their child. But this is not going to make him or her strong. Let him or her take decisions, make mistakes and face the consequences especially for those things which are not going to harm them.

9. Not Allowing Kids to Fail

Parents who are too soft do not want their children to experience failure. So, they can go to any extent to avoid failures in their child’s life. Such children may always have fear of failure and may not take up challenges in life.

10. Not Giving kids Respect According to Their Age

Kids also require respect and consideration. Too soft parents always think that their children are very young and forget to respect their independence, freedom and personal space which may lead to conflicts and disagreements at times.
Being soft and considerate is good when you are parenting. However, excess of everything is bad. Do love your kids unconditionally, but make sure you are the one who needs to prepare them for life and future.

What are the effects of being too soft with kids? Why is it necessary to avoid being too soft with kids? How to avoid being too soft as well as too strict with kids? Discuss here.
