Things You Should Give-Up to Raise Happy Kids

A parent knowingly and unknowingly has to sacrifice a lot of things for the wellbeing of kids. Here are few things which you should give-up to raise happy kids.

Parenting is a tough and challenging task and at times parents find it difficult to handle their kids.  Parents need to be careful enough while raising their children. There are certain things that parents need to give-up raising happy kids. The things that parents should give-up are discussed below:

Give-Up Negative Emotions

Parents must be careful enough with their own negative thoughts. When parents show their negative emotions to their kids, it may lead to aggression in the kids. This aggression can start during the pre-school phase so parents must stop showing their negative emotions to their kids.

Stop Yelling at Kids

Another thing that parents must give-up is to stop yelling at their kids. If parents keep on yelling at their kids, they will take it as a part of life and will keep on doing wrong things.

Give-Up Telling Your Childhood Story

Many parents have the habit of telling their childhood stories to their children. They like to tell their kids how they enjoyed or got bullied in school, how much financial crunch they had to face, and others. Parents should stop telling all these stories to their kids because they may get trapped in the fearful experience of their parents’ childhood.

Give-Up Taking One-Sided Decisions

Parents have right to decide on the behalf of their kids but if this becomes the regular habit then kids would not take it happily. Parents can always have the final say but it is better if parents could create a win-win situation where both parents and the kids get opportunity to take decision. Parents must involve their kids in the decision making process so that in future kids are capable of taking their own decisions.

Give-Up Feeling Guilty

Parents at some point of their parenthood get the feeling of guilt which they should overcome because it may lead to the act of self-sacrifice. It could happen when parent is unable to provide a thing that the kids is asking or it could be when the parent has failed to keep their words to take their kids for an outing, the feeling of guilt is experienced which parents must overcome.

Give-Up Forcing the Child

Parents must set boundaries for their child and make them understand what is right for them and what is wrong but when they keep on resisting, parents must give it a second thought. A parent should be playing the role of a trusted guide and must not behave like a dictator. This will help in reducing frustration of the parent and the child both.

Give-Up Forcing For Food

Parents have the habit of forcing their child regarding their meals especially the moms. While preparing food, parents must listen to the preferences of their children.  Since childhood, parents must try to help their children getting into the habit of eating healthy food which will help their children later in life.

Give-Up One-Rule for All Kids

Parents must not fail to understand that every kid is unique so the same rules will not be applicable for every child. Parents must also keep in mind that even a very small child likes to be treated respectfully. If they find that their parents are not giving them due respect, they will never listen to their parents.

If parents are responsible enough to find out the things that may affect their children in positive way and try giving these things immediately they will be able to raise children who are sound physically and mentally. Parents should identify the behaviour or things that could hurt the self-esteem and respect of a child and try to give them up as soon as possible.

What kind of sacrifices do parents have to make? Why is it necessary to give-up certain things for the wellbeing of children? How to raise happy and well balanced kids? Discuss here.
