Coping with common pregnancy problems can be made easy by taking right care of health during pregnancy. Here are some tips on avoiding common health problems during pregnancy.

You are pregnant – your body is going through so many changes, which will cause discomfort, irritation, and at times, they may seem quite alarming. Few common problems include morning sickness, constipation, cramps, faintness, headaches, incontinence, feeling hot, heartburn, frequent urination, vaginal discharge, swollen body parts, stretch marks, skin and hair changes, varicose veins, etc. This article may help you to cope few of the above-mentioned common pregnancy problems.

How to Deal with Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is common at any time of the day during 6-14 weeks of pregnancy and can get worse if you do not take care.
  • Keep yourself hydrated with plenty of fluids, e.g., water, lemonade, fruit juices, clear soups, etc.
  • You can try having try ginger ale or ginger tea to relieve nausea
  • Do not leave your stomach empty and prefer having snacks between mealtimes
  • Eat anything that makes you feel good, but avoid fatty, spicy, and greasy foods
  • Get plenty of rest and fresh air

How to Beat Constipation and Heartburn?

Digestion slows down due to the hormonal changes in your body, which causes side-effects, such as constipation and heartburn.
  • Include plenty of fluids and fiber in your diet, and avoid fried, spicy, greasy foods and carbonated drinks
  • Eat frequent meals in small amounts and make sure you chew your food well
  • Prop up your head and shoulders after having food – do not lie down flat just after eating
  • Ask your doctor to prescribe antacids if the problem is getting worse. Do not take any antacid without consulting your doctor as it may not be safe to do so
  • Exercise and walking can be helpful. Practice safe exercises only after consulting a doctor

How to Avoid Feeling Faint?

As the hormonal changes occur, your brain may lack enough blood and thus oxygen, which can make you feel faint.
  • Avoid sudden movements, be slow while you sit down or lie down
  • Take a seat quickly if you feel faint while standing and turn on your left side if you feel faint lying on your back as the latter helps circulation throughout your body
  • Eat small and regular meals to avoid low blood sugar

How to Avoid Frequent Urination?

You may feel like urinating a number of times during early pregnancy, which may increase in the later stage as a result of the baby’s head pressing on your bladder.
  • Consume less fluid in the evening to have a peaceful sleep without the need to get up for using washroom
  • Avoid caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee etc.
  • Consult your doctor about the ways to empty the bladder more

How to Cope with the Skin and Hair Changes?

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can lead to hair fall, change in texture of your hair making it dry or oily, change in skin quality and color, and also stretch marks.
  • Make sure your diet includes foods rich in vitamins C and E, which are needed for healthy skin
  • Keep your skin soft by applying lotion daily which is prescribed by your doctor
  • Exercise daily to keep your skin glowing. Exercise only after consulting your doctor
  • Keep yourself hydrated with plenty of fluids to have strong hair and better skin
  • Do not worry about stretch marks, they will fade gradually after pregnancy
There are few lucky women who go through their pregnancies very smoothly without facing much of these common problems. Always remember that it is common to face pregnancy problems, but it is also important to talk to your doctor if your problems worsen and you find them uncontrollable.
