Coping with Thyroid Problems

Coping with thyroid problems is not difficult if you pay attention to your health and diet the right way. Regular yoga and meditation practice will also help a lot to deal with thyroid problems. All you have to do is, make healthy changes in your lifestyle to cope with thyroid problem easily.

Thyroid gland is small gland that is present in our throat. The main function of these glands is to produce hormones that affect metabolism and energy levels in our bodies. These hormones, in fact, regulate modulation of carbohydrates, utilization of vitamins and protein, metabolism of fats and utilization of oxygen as well. They take care of the flow of blood, controls nerve and muscle activities and sexual and reproductive health.

Types of Thyroid Diseases

– This disease is caused by over secretion of hormones. This is more commonly seen in women than in men. The size of the thyroid glands increase 2 – 3 times than normal and it is also called goiter. The eyes seem to be protruded and the person suffering from this disease has high metabolic rate. Hyperthyroidism has following symptoms:

  • Increase in body temperature 
  • Increase in the pulse rate
  • Heat intolerance
  • Moist flushed skin
  • Lose weight easily
  • Lot of anxiety and nervousness

– This disease occurs when there is less secretion of hormones through thyroid glands. This ailment can occur during fetal life or childhood or during adulthood also. These can lead to mental retardation and dwarfism. Hypothyroidism has following symptoms:

  • Low sexual development
  • Yellowish skin colour
  • General tiredness
  • Low body temperature
  • Deliberate heart rate
  • Sensitivity to cold

Yoga for Thyroid Problem

Yoga is an excellent alternative healing process that is very helpful for people suffering from thyroid problem. The stretching and simple breathing exercises are enough to start with. These breathing exercises give people the energy from within along with helping them get reduction in their stress levels, flexibility, helps reduce joint stiffness and far more benefits to mind and common harmony.

Yoga Postures for Thyroid Problem

Uttanpadasana, Yashtikasana, Fish Pose, Boat Pose and Shoulder Stand are the yoga exercises that benefit in thyroid problem. Along with these Ujjayi Pranayama, Anulom Vilom and Kapabhati Pranayama are also of great help.

Along with yoga and Pranayamas if you keep an eye on your diet and have food rich in iodine, zinc, copper, vitamin A and amino acids, it will help you get cured in a natural way. These are found in green leafy vegetables, nuts, tomatoes, pumpkin, legumes, raisins, fish, chicken, eggs and sea weeds.

It is very necessary to deal with thyroid problem at an earliest. Especially women should take care of thyroid problem as early as possible. I have heard that stress management can help a lot to cope with thyroid problem. Therefore, women who are coping with thyroid problem can consult a good yoga practitioner to help you deal with stress.

First of all you should practice the stress management techniques to balance your hormones. Onces the hormonal balance is achieved, thyroid problem can be taken care of easily. It is very necessary to live a stress free life in order to cope with health problems like thyroid problems.

Yoga is good for coping with thyroid problem. I was coping with thyroid problem. But after starting yoga practice, I could cope with thyroid problem easily. It is very easy to deal with thyroid problem with regular yoga practice.
