Count your blessings

Count your blessings

In the quest of achieving all that our heart desires, we forget to appreciate what we already have. One way to remember this is, to count our blessings.

Sumeet works for fourteen hours, a day. His day begins in a rush. A regular day for him is full of meetings and deadlines. Without a moment to pause, he is a hero at multi-tasking. By the time his day is over he is not in the mood to speak to anyone. He is lonely, frustrated and worried about competitive colleagues. He constantly has a nagging feeling, that whatever he is doing is insignificant and he may be losing out in the rat race.

Take it easy

The world we live in today is very competitive, period. Timelines have shortened and distances have decreased. We all have so much to do, that sometimes we do not even have time for ourselves. We set high goals and if the goals are not met, it leads to frustration. Most of the time, in our hurry to reach the top, we miss the beauty of climbing one step at a time.
Everyone wants to be rich, beautiful and intelligent at a quick rate. But each of us needs to take a look at our capabilities, potential and limitations, before we start off. We need to consider the space and time to reach our goals. We have to take it easy at times.

Count your blessings

Start expressing gratitude for all the blessings that have been showered upon you. Remembering all that you have can help you be grateful, for what you may be taking for granted. E.g. good health is the biggest blessing one can ask for. We do not realize the value of good health, until we lose it. Being normal can be the biggest blessing ever.
Counting your blessings can give you clarity of purpose. It helps you set goals based on your needs, potential and dreams.

Inculcating a sense of gratitude

It is very simple to show and feel gratitude. All you have to do is just pause and have a look around the world you live in. People have problems that you may never encounter all your life. Let us start with the most basic step.
Once you rise in the morning, feel happy to be alive and that you have another day to do your best at whatever you do. Take a deep breath. Remember you still have a roof over your head. A lot of people in the world cannot be sure about this. Millions of people have to struggle even for fresh water. You are plain lucky to have a family that surrounds you with love and care.
Now, take a pen and paper, start making a list of blessings that you have. Begin your count and soon you will see that paper fill up with so many blessings you never even knew existed. Everyone has their own share of joys and sorrows. It is simply a matter of perspective. You either see the glass half full or half empty.

What happens once you start being thankful?

Once you start being thankful, your perspective will change for the better. You will be peaceful, more positive and you will find happiness in small things in life. You will be able to give better and love better. You will be on your way to achieve your goals because you will have clarity of purpose. Everyone on our planet has a place and a job to do. All we have to do is find ours and do our best. Just showing gratitude for what we already are and have can make a big difference to our lives.
