Raising a Child who Cares for Others

Raising a Child who Cares for Others

Teaching kids to care for others and think of other’s welfare is necessary to avoid raising them in to selfish individuals. Read on to find out how to raise a child who cares for others.

One of the complaints lodged against the new generation by old people is that they are selfish. As per them, the children of this generation do not know how to care for others. All they understand is their own individual needs. As long as their needs and wants are satisfied they are happy. If there is any glitch in the gratification of their needs and wants they rebel and create a tantrum.
While this might seem harsh, some of it is actually true. Even in the previous generation only one can see how children leave their parents and go abroad. They do not care to check up on them or come back to them to nurse them in their old age. Obviously there are many who sacrifice their careers to take care of their parents.
It has been seen to some extent that the upbringing of children affect how their nature is. Many have claimed that if kids are taught how to care for others, how to think about others’ welfare too, they grow up to be caring adults. If you are faring that your kid might neglect you when are old, here are some ways you can raise your child to be caring.

1. Adopt a Pet

One of the primary ways by which you can inculcate the spirit of caring in your child is to bring home a pet. This has been seen as an effective method by child psychologists. As your child comes to love the pet they also start caring for it. Tell your child to look after the pet, feed it and take it out for a walk regularly. However, make sure that your pet is vaccinated from time to time and is hygienic to prevent any kind of infection.
The more attached your child is to the pet the more they will learn to care. This is a primary way of teaching them how to care. This care that they now invest upon the pet will soon transfer to human being as they grow up. They will be se more sensitive to the needs of others.

2. Social Service

Many schools have social service as a compulsory part of their curriculum. Social service is a great way to teach kids how to learn to care for other human beings. Kids have gentler hearts. When they see at a young age the kind of struggles and suffering people are going through, they automatically begin to care and love others around them. Taking your kid to volunteer at a slum camp or at some hospital will make them care for these individuals. When they grow up they will actively help all those who are in distress readily.

3. Spirit of Charity

Infuse the spirit of charity in your child at a young age. Teach them to give away what they do not need to those who have nothing. Make them give their old toys to the kids of the helping hands or the poor kids in your neighbourhood. On special occasions ask your kid to save some of their pocket money to help the needy people.

4. Awareness

Make them aware of what is going on in the world. Tell them about the floods and droughts that are leaving millions without food or shelter. Make them read about the poverty conditions of our country. Show them the beggars on the street side and the conditions they are living in. this will make them realize how important it is to care.

5. Love Relatives

Do not let them refuse to attend family occasions. Insist on their going and interacting with people. That way they will be close to their relatives and care for them.
The more you child comes to love humanity the more they will be inspired to care for them. If they are aloof they would not ever learn to care. Make them loving and social.

How to develop caring nature in kids? Why is it important to teach kids to care for others? What are the ways to deal with kids who do not care for others? Discuss here.
