Early Signs of Puberty in Girls

Early Signs of Puberty in Girls
It is necessary to recognise the early signs of puberty in girls and guide them the right way. It is a very important responsibility on part of parents especially mothers. Let us take a look at some of the crucial signs of puberty in girls.

Puberty is a phase that all women on earth go through and it is an extremely unsettling and transformational phase. It is at puberty that a girl begins her passage into womanhood and usually this phase brings with a lot of questions and doubts. As a parent you might find it difficult to believe that your little angel is now passing through her puberty but here are the tell tale signs that will help you.

Body Hair

The hormonal changes in the body often entail a change in the body hair pattern of girls. There is a sudden spurt of hair near the pubic region and the quality of this hair will be coarser and rougher. The first growth of pubic hair occurs near the labia and then spreads over the whole genital area. The spurt of such hair can disturb and confuse your little girl so it is up to you to convince and reassure her.

Change in Body Structure

Sometimes puberty is accompanied by a sudden gain in weight. Your slim little girl may suddenly gain as much as 6 to 7 kg in a year and can tend to be overweight. The weight gain is also an effect of the hormonal transformation of the body and she will shed off the weight when hormonal balance is restored.
The weight gain is the body’s way of coping up with the increased bone size and thickening bone density. It is around this time that little girls show their first signs of acquiring feminine curves.

Swelling Breasts

Puberty entails the rise in oestrogen levels of the body and this is when the female secondary sexual characters begin to develop. The breast buds or the thickened darkened nipples begin to make their appearance during this time.
There is a lot of discomfort during this stage and sometimes the area around the areola may become tender. Tell your little girl that is a completely normal and safe effect of puberty.

Acne and Pimples

The hormonal changes in the body of girls during the time of puberty may result in acne or pimples. During the pubescent stage the body produces a lot of testosterone and this makes the small sebaceous glands in the body work overtime. Too much oil is secreted and when the hair follicle is broken by sebum and sweat then whiteheads can occur.
If bacterial infection occurs then acne is the result and sometimes this can spread to the neck, upper arms and back too. Buy a good anti bacterial cream to take care of the acne condition and explain to your little girl that these minor skin issues are just a small irritant in the beautiful passage to womanhood.

Change in Body Odour

As a girl passes through puberty there is a change in the composition and secretion of the sweat glands in her body, especially around the genital areas and armpits. These sweat glands are known as pocrine glands and they release sweat which has a different composition and odour. Usually pubescent girls sweat a lot more and have noticeably changed body odour.

Periods

A girl may get her periods between the ages of 11 to 14 and there is no fixed as to when this should ideally happen. In the days that lead up to her first period your little girl may seem to have grown extremely irritable and snappy. However, these mood swings are only the result of the raging hormonal change in her body.
Puberty is a difficult time to deal with and it is only with the love and support of a caring and understanding parent that the journey becomes easier.

Which are the common signs of puberty in girls? How to help girls deal with puberty and adolescence? What are the ways to prevent early puberty in girls? Discuss here.
