The pregnant women, especially if the woman is pregnant for the first time, it would be quite surprising to know about the body changes that are likely to happen during pregnancy. So, they may be anxious about the changes that may happen.

Why is Anxiety Seen in Pregnant Women?

During pregnancy, the pregnant women undergo lot of hormonal changes in their body. These hormonal changes have direct impact on the body and mind of the pregnant women. In spite of the physical changes, the pregnant women may face frequent mood swings and problems of fear and anxiety.
In general, the pregnant women in their first trimester feel tired due to these hormonal changes. Due to the fatigue, they may have certain confusions on how they are going to manage with the pregnancy, how they are going to bring up the child after giving birth to the child, and the like. This restlessness may also lead to anxiety disorders.

Personal Issues and Anxiety Occurring during Pregnancy

Some pregnant women may have certain personal problems due to which they may face mood disorders. During pregnancy, the pregnant women require physical and emotional support from the other members in their family or from their husband or life partner. But, getting support from their family members or their partner may not be possible in some cases due to some misunderstanding or due to some or other reasons.

Anxiety and Its Impact on the Expectant Mother and the Baby

The increase in anxiety in pregnant women, regardless of the reasons, may lead to sleeplessness and indigestion or no feeling of hunger, leading to anxiety attacks. Such type of heavy anxiety disorders seen in pregnant women may even affect the baby to the extent of facing a miscarriage. Another important factor is that the anxiety disorder seen in pregnant women may directly create stress to the baby, which may affect the baby in the later stages of its life or it may even affect the growth of the baby leading to low birth weight.

How to Handle Anxiety during Pregnancy?

Anxiety during pregnancy can be easily handled by understanding that pregnancy is not a disease. In fact, the pregnant women must see to that they are happy during this period. There is nothing to fear about pregnancy. They should take nutritious food at proper intervals and have good sleep and rest whenever required. This would provide proper relaxation to the body and mind of the pregnant women.
If there are any anxieties regarding pregnancy, bringing up the child, and other aspects, the pregnant women may discuss with their doctor, family members, and friends to get these anxieties and questions clarified so that they need not carry the anxieties for longer duration. The pregnant women can also get the required help from their family members so that they can relax a while.

Antenatal Exercises and Anxiety Faced during Pregnancy

The breathing exercises and the other antenatal exercises practiced under the supervision of certified trainers not only helps the pregnant women to make their body ready for labour but also helps them get relieved from the anxiety and tension. When the pregnant women feel that their anxiety levels are going high, they can do some breathing exercises after consulting their doctor to get relieved of the anxiety and tension that they have.
When the anxiety level is severe, it is better to consult the doctor. Your doctor will suggest right remedies to deal with it. However, do not take any medicines or antidepressants which are not prescribed by your doctor as it may harm your pregnancy. Have a healthy, safe and stress free pregnancy!
