How to Wash Baby

While washing your baby’s clothes you need to be extra careful as your baby’s skin is very delicate and prone to infection. Read on to find tips for washing your baby’s clothes. Know about the precautions which you need to take while washing your baby’s clothes right here.

Baby's skin is sensitive and easily gets affected. You might see rashes even on the body of an infant apart from nappy rashes. This can be due to the side effect of the detergent you have been using to wash your baby’s clothes or may be because the clothes were not washed properly and disinfected. However, it is a good idea to wash your baby’s clothes on your own or give instructions that should be followed properly.

Tips for Washing your Baby’s Clothes

Have a quick look at the tips for washing your baby’s clothes.

  • Wash the clothes for the first time before putting it on, on your baby. This will make it safe, clean and free from any kind of allergy for your child.
  • Although you can wash the baby’s clothes along with the family member’s clothes, it is always advisable to wash the nappies separately.
  • Fasten the zips and then put them to wash to avoid deforming of the clothes.
  • Keep the white clothes separate so that they look fresh and pretty always.
  • Avoid using hot or warm water as this will help prevent the baby’s clothes from getting deformed or discoloured as well.
  • Rinse the clothes for more times than used for other clothes. This will ensure that there is no residue of soap on the baby’s clothes.
  • Dry it in an open space in fresh air and sunlight as well.

Precautions to Be Taken While Washing Baby’s Clothes

You need to take certain precautions just because a baby’s skin is very delicate. It is vital that you take care of the clothing right from the time of purchasing to washing them on regular basis.

  • Use a dye free and fragrance free detergent. Read the ingredients and watch out for use of chemicals. There are some detergents that are designed especially for washing baby’s clothes.
  • Follow the instructions for washing given on the clothing tag of your baby.
  • Avoid washing cloth diapers along with other baby clothes. It is not hygienic and safe.
  • If you are not sure about the detergent, avoid using it. It is really heartbreaking to see rashes on your infant’s body just because you were a little bit careless.
  • Stay away from detergents that contain bleach and chemicals.
  • When you are washing baby’s clothes in washing machine, avoid using the dryer.
  • Disinfect the nappies after washing them. This is important so that the nappies remain germ free always.
  • Baby’s clothes should be preferably washed separately.

Washing correctly and using the best detergent will ensure comfort and safe clothes for your newborn. Taking proper care will prolong the life of the clothes and make it look fresh and lovely too.

Selection of Clothes for Baby

Besides this, you should prefer choosing cotton clothes for your baby. The main reason is that usually cotton is free from any allergies and newborn babies are safe to a great extent. Cotton helps the child’s skin to breath and helps to prevent overheating. It provides the right kind of heating that is required for the child’s body.

When you are going to buy your child’s clothes, considering his age, make sure that you buy safe clothes. Some of the decorative items and buttons can be dangerous for your infant. Check out the quality and comfort and do not go for styling and fashion only. Prefer buying clothes that can be opened from front and see that the zipper and the buttons are safe and skin friendly for your infant.

Once I bought a beautiful dress for my baby and in excitement i made my baby wear it. She had the dress on for the whole night. Next morning, I found rashes on her skin. Could this be allergy or an infection?

It is quite right that new clothes should be washed before putting it on the baby. Also drying the clothes in the sun if possible helps to disinfect them naturally.
