New Year's Resolutions for Parents

What kind of New Year’s resolutions are you going to make as a parent? Here are some ideas for you. Take a quick look at them.
As soon as New Year starts approaching, people start thinking about the resolutions that can help them to make their life better. As a parent you must learn what resolutions you can make this New Year so that you have less regrets and feel more satisfied and happy by the end of the coming year.
Almost everyone likes to think about the New Year that is going to come because it seems like a blank paper where one can write the way he or she wants to spend life. You can not only make resolutions for the New Year as a parent, but also work on the parenting mistakes that you did in the previous year.

What Resolutions Can Parents Make?

Here are some simple New Year's resolutions which you must make as a parent.

Spending Quality Time with Kids

You can make a resolution to spend quality time with your kids for which you have to spend less time on trying to keep your house spick and span. Your children might not remember the perfectly clean house, but they will definitely remember the fun they had playing with you.

Using the Word ‘Don’t’ Less Frequently

If you pay attention to your conversation with your toddler or preschooler you will find that you say ‘don’t’ a lot more times than necessary. You can reduce this and have a positive conversation with your child the coming year. If you are able to do this you will find extremely changed and positive relationship between you and your child by the end of the year.

Having One Date Night with Spouse

When you are a new parent it is obvious you did not spend much time together with your spouse. You can do this New Year and promise yourself to plan and go for a date night and have dinner for only two of you so that you rejuvenate your relationship.

Getting Some ‘Me’ Time

Take out some time when you can do whatever you like. You can simply sit back and relax or sit with a book or accomplish one of your hobbies. But make sure this should be away from any kind of responsibilities that you have to work on for others.

Organizing Your Photographs

You must have taken a lot of photographs in the last year. Organize them in such a way that they come up in sequence.

Believing in Yourself

Read articles from reliable sources and brush your parenting skills wherever necessary. Do not get carried away by what people say. Believe in yourself and have faith in your parenting style.

Hugging Instead of Yelling

It is very difficult to deal patiently with kids when they misbehave. However, yelling will not solve your parenting problems. When you feel like yelling at your child, hug him and think differently to handle the situation.

Not Letting Sibling Rivalry Rise

Sibling rivalry arises when your child feels that his sibling is getting more attention and love. Therefore, you must make sure that any of your children does not get this kind of feeling. If you have two small kids or you are expecting one the coming year, you can develop confidence in your older child’s relationship by saying him how much you love him.

Saving Money

You can check on unnecessary spending and save money to go with your kids and husband on a vacation.

Waking-up Early and Enjoying Life

You can wake up earlier than your kids and finish your daily work before they rise so that you can have breakfast and some more time with your kids.

Planning a Daily Schedule

If your kids are school going ones, you should plan out a schedule and help your kids go to bed early so that they are fresh and perform better in school.
Promise yourself to do one thing at a time and no multitasking too much most often. In addition you should start a good habit, make more fresh food at home and help your kids get attached to nature.

Which New Year’s resolutions should parents make? How can parents stick to their parenting resolutions? Can New Year’s resolutions help to improve parenting skills? Discuss here.

Great ideas. Most of the times I say "No". Yesterday also I said "no" when she wanted to colour a book which was bought from Books Club at Orchids International School.I need to work more to reduce saying "No" to my kid.

I never make resolutions as I seldom keep it up. This year I am just hoping to be a better parent but am not making any resolutions.
