Teaching children how to talk to others from very beginning of their childhood is a big task for every parent. It is the most important step in bringing up children and developing them into perfect human beings.
In this age of technology as children are becoming more tech savvy in their daily routine forgetting basic manners of talking to their peers as well as elders. It is the most important aspect of life we get to see these days in many households. So it is better to take measures before it gets too late. Here are some tips and guidelines which one can teach to their children.

Some Basic Manners of Talking for Children

Here are some basic manners of talking which we should inculcate in our children.
  • Talking politely to everyone irrespective of the age.
  • Never address anyone with his or her name. Always address elders by saying uncle, aunty, sir, madam etc.
  • Never scream or shout while speaking to anybody even if in a bad mood.
  • Greet by saying “Hello” or “Good morning” etc. on meeting acquaintance.
  • Let the other person complete what he or she wants to say before saying something.
  • Do not talk in between when two people or adults are talking.
  • Never interrupt others while they are talking.
  • If another person is not able to hear go closer and talk.
  • Never talk loudly in public places.
  • Do not ignore anyone if he or she is saying something.
  • Always respond if anybody is asking anything.
  • Never talk rudely to anybody.

Talking to Parents

Parents do play a very important role in teaching interaction guidance being the first teacher to their children. Being a parent it is important to teach good words and gestures while talking. We should talk in a polite and generous manner with them to make them understand the importance of being polite and obedient.

Talking to Grand Parents

Teaching children to talk with elders is a very great idea as it comes under manners. Elders do also like to interact with children as most of the elders become child like at that stage of life. Some elders suffer from poor hearing and many other discomforts. So it is essential to talk to them in a polite manner.

Talking to Relatives

Children do often fight with their elder brother and sisters on different issues. As in many households it is seen that elder brother and sister feel that the younger child gets more attention, while on the hand the younger ones feel that elder brothers and sisters get to do whatever they want. So it is the duty of the parents to maintain a sense of equality between them especially for the children of same age.

Talking to Teachers

It is said that parents are the first teachers of child, and a child education begins from home. But as the child grows up and school begins, a child comes to interact with teachers who will guide them in different aspects of life. So teach children to show them proper respect which will help them in long run.

Talking to Friends

As a child grows up he makes friends and peers. But some children are shy enough to talk to any unknown child. When your child meets up any unknown child do not try to force them of not interacting with each other. Let them interact with each other. Do not let your child a victim of cultural differences. Let them meet with every child of any cultural background then only they will be able to differentiate right and wrong.

Talking to Strangers

We have often heard of this phrase from our childhood “not to talk to strangers”, and it has passed on from generation to generation. But if we see all strangers are not bad enough. It is our duty to guide the child to differentiate between “strangers” who are good and who are not. It is good idea to keep your child safe, but sometimes it may happen that you get useful information from a stranger.
As we have discussed about teaching children proper manners of talking and behaving with others like parents, grandparents, strangers, friends, and siblings. From all this one thing has been clear that teaching children at the right point of time and at an early age helps them in becoming a better individual for the long run. It not only helps them in building up their interpersonal skills but also helps them to be a good human being.
