Independence Day Activities for Kids

Independence Day has a special significance in the lives of all Indians no matter whether they live in the country or abroad. Every parent wants to instil patriotic feelings in their children.
The Indian Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 every year because this is the day when Indians were declared free from the British Rule. Traditionally many people celebrate this day by watching the parade in their locale, going out for picnic or enjoying the fireworks.
Kids have always been an integral part of celebrating independence and participating in various activities. Children learn in school books about how India got independence and why is 15th August 1947 a very important date for Indians.
However, parents want their children to know more about everything and they also want to instil the feeling of patriotism in their kids. Here are some activities that will not only help inspire children, but also make them enjoy the day of national importance in a specific way.

Independence Day Activities for Kids

1. Flag Hoisting Ceremony

Hoist the flag of India from the house roof, apartment building or plan a flag hoisting ceremony in the main park of the society. There are many other places where you can display the flag like on car, bike, scooter, bicycle or even a large flag hanging from your window. Make sure you teach your child how to respect the flag. While doing these activities make sure that you maintain the flag in a respectful manner.

2. Watch a Patriotic Movie With Kids

Movies say a lot of things in limited time. There are many well known patriotic movies made with the theme of the fight for the freedom of India which you can sit with your children and watch. Accompanying them will help inspire them to watch the movie with full enthusiasm and vigour.

3. Organize an Independence Day Quiz Contest

For this you need to plan a few days ahead or if you are fast enough you can make arrangements and spread the news so that you can have the competition in the evening in the common hall or club of your society. Make sure you keep the topic centred to freedom movement. You can also include some of the current topics and problems as well.

4. Organize Drawing and Painting Competition

Children can participate in the artistic competition. Just keep in mind that the topic should be based on freedom and sovereignty. It is exciting and full of fun for kids who are participating as well as for the judges also.

5. Arrange for Music and Dance Competition

Most of you must be living in societies and there must be many kids of different age group. Organize a dance and music competition and let the children have exposure, fun and enjoyment.

6. Plan for a Fancy Dress Competition

Fancy dress competition is something that even adults enjoy. Let the children do their best and enjoy the different makeovers for the day. The audience will also enjoy seeing kids parading in fancy dresses role playing. Nowadays you can even get some readymade outfits available making it easier to participate and perform for the kids.

7. Arrange for Some Other Fun Contests and Activities

There are many other fun activities and contests that you can think and organize apart from the popular and common ones. For example you can arrange for mimicry, drama, skits and many more.

8. Attend Local Independence Day Flag Hoisting with Kids

There must be a common place in your locality where there must be flag hoisting planned. Visit there and participate in the celebration with your kids.

9. Dress Patriotically Along With Kids

This is one of the best things you can do. This will not only keep you in the feeling of patriotism but also help you instil in your children Indian culture and tradition.

10. Cook with Tricolour Effects for Kids

There are many ways in which you can cook food that day to show your patriotism and let the kids enjoy the meal. This will make them understand the significance of Independence Day and the National Flag in our lives.
