Foods for Boosting Child's Memory

foods for boosting childs memory
Early childhood year are very crucial. So, it is a must to include memory boosting foods in the diet of children during this phase. Let us take a look at the foods for boosting child’s memory.

During the first five years, your child’s brain grows rapidly. She absorbs everything in the environment and discovers a lot about herself. The process of learning and discovering requires healthy brain development. The child’s intelligence, memory and concentration are largely dependent on her diet. Therefore, including antioxidants, vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids and carbohydrates in her diet is helpful in retaining her memory power. Such foods are commonplace, but most of us do not realize the extent of their benefits. So, what are some of the foods in Indian households that can help to boost your child’s memory?

1. Almonds

Almonds are considered to be one of the world’s healthiest foods. They are rich in protein that helps repair brain cells and boost cognitive functions. They contain zinc that acts an antioxidant that fights against free radicals which otherwise attack healthy brain cells. Almonds are also in rich in Vitamin B6 and E that helps in the slowing down of ageing of brain cells and promotes brain health. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids help in increasing intellectual levels. Magnesium helps strengthen brain nerves.

2. Beans and Legumes

Beans and legumes are common Indian foodstuff, and they are children’s favourites as well. They are good sources of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals and fibre. They regulate our child’s absorption of glucose with no dangers of sugar spikes. They contain collate, which is a kind of Vitamin B which is critical for healthy brain functioning. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help in brain growth and functioning. A higher quantity of nutrition can be found in kidney beans and pinto beans.

3. Fish

Fish is particularly good for children as it contains omega-3 fatty acids that help in a child’s brain development skills. The omega-6 fatty acids present in fish also help boost memory function. Therefore, it is recommended to have at least one serving of fish per day such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, rainbow trout and tuna. If you do not eat fish, substitute your needs through flaxseeds or fish oil supplements. Fish also helps your child focus and protect against cognitive decline and boosts memory and concentration.

4. Meat and Eggs

Lean meat is a good source of protein and iron. It also contains Vitamin B12 which helps in the formation of blood and brain functioning. It prevents poor memory and fatigue. Eggs contain choline which helps in generating memory cells. The more memory cells, the more mental capabilities your child shall possess. If you are a vegetarian, opt for milk and dairy products which contain calcium, Vitamin D, protein and carbohydrates. These nutrients are essential for brain tissue growth, neurotransmitters and enzymes.

5. Amla

The well-known Indian gooseberry is known as a brain food. Predominantly eaten raw or in the form of chyawanprash, amla is believed to improve memory. The antioxidants present in Amla fight against free radicals in the body which otherwise damage brain cells. It is rich in Vitamin C which helps in the production of neuropinephrine which improves brain activity. The iron present in amla also aids in oxygen transportation which helps in preventing brain degeneration.

6. Green Leafy Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach are very high in iron. This helps in improving learning, attention and memory. Being sources of high fibre, Vitamin B6 and folic acid, they increase the growth of new brain cells and slow down the effect of aging. Spinach also helps in preventing dementia in older age. It also contains magnesium, folate and vitamin E which aid in quick responses.
In retrospect, one does not really need health drinks to boost their child’s memory. Memory and concentration issues can be easily resolved by following a wholesome and balanced diet. Though your child may not like all foods, but you need to present them in innovative and interesting ways. These foods are extremely important for a healthy mental development so that your child becomes a smart child.
