Five New Ways of Celebrating Christmas

Five New Ways of Celebrating Christmas

Christmas is celebrated with great fanfare in our homes. Decorations, elaborate dinners, gifts and socialising highlight our Christmas celebration. But do we ever feel the need to be different? Read on for the five offbeat ways of celebrating this season.

  • Spare a thought

Your house is full of clothes and other belongings that neither your children nor yourself wish to use. Collect all these spare clothes and toys that you have relegated to your storeroom. Remember the dress your daughter refuses to wear? Or the pants your son has grown out of? What about the toys your children think they are too old to play with? Involve your kids in this streamlining of cupboards and stores..
  • Visit the less fortunate

Once you have piled up the items, donate it to either a trust working for street children, or an old-age home, or an organization working for calamity-affected people all over the world. You can also take your kids to a neighboring old age home or a similar welfare organization. Help the inmates of the organization to decorate the Christmas tree. Not only will it bring joy to you, but it will give new friends to your kids. And more people your kids meet, more mature they become.
  • Patch up

Patch up with at least two people with whom you haven't spoken to for years. Forget your fights with them and invite them over for a Christmas celebration. You will be surprised at their response. Not only will they lose enemies, but you too will gain friends. This will not only brighten your Christmas, but your life too. Your children will also imbibe forgiveness as a value.
  • Revive your old albums

Bring out your old album having photos of the past Christmas celebrations. Decorate your house with this collection that will also include photos of your children's toddling days and your childhood days too. Make a large collage and stick it in a conspicuous place. Let your parents narrate their experiences with you to your children. You can turn your Christmas party into a nostalgia party.
  • Write down your feelings

Write down all the things you love about your near and dear ones, neighbors and colleagues on separate pieces of paper. Stick these papers as tags to the Christmas gifts you are giving them. This will give you more reasons to love them next year.

You can also do a variety of other things that can make this Christmas enjoyable and memorable. Make a list of things that you are grateful for. Express gratitude towards those who have helped and supported you during difficult times.  Express gratitude towards your parents. You can also express gratitude towards your teachers and mentors.

You can do the things that you always wanted to do or something that you are scared of doing. Do a random act of kindness or volunteer for a cause that is very close to your heart.

Make a list of things that you want to work towards. It can be your weight loss goal or career goal or any other goal that you would like to achieve. Write down the steps you would take for achieving your goals. Make a detailed plan for achieving your targets.

Go for outings to nearby places like beaches or lake sides, or go for a long drive. Plan a family photo shoot or cook something special for your loved ones.

Try these and see how this Christmas becomes the most fondly remembered one, not only for you but also for those whom you reached out to.
