Congratulations! Your little one has now entered the “tween years”. At this stage children now start approaching adolescence and are going through plenty of physical changes. They will now start observing growing hair under her armpits and groin area. It is important to take care of their basic hygiene standards to deal with the sweat and excess oil secretions now. This is the time when you can expect breasts development in girls and cracking of voice in boys.
Apart from their physical developments, they are going through plenty of emotional developments as well. They are now developing a strong sense of presence in the world. Now that she is moving to the middle and the high school, she needs to cope with all the changes in the new social setting.

Physical Changes

Girls are known to attain their puberty earlier than boys. This is the transitional phase that is marked with plenty of changes. She shall be trapped within feelings like uncertainty, embarrassments, excitement, mood swings and trepidation.
She is now more particular about the way she looks. It is normal for your daughter to develop image and body issues now. You as a parent can help her develop a healthy image of her body. Make sure you are not making any negative comments about the way she looks and set healthy eating practices.
Your daughter shall now ask for increased privacy. Respect her privacy and leave her alone while dressing or during baths. She shall be more and more inquisitive about her changing body now.
You shall find her paying more attention to her dresses and hairstyles now. She would always want to be well accepted by her friends and try to look good.

Confidence Building

She shall now develop a strong sense of confidence that shall help her deal with different situations better. Bullying is a common problem at this age that you need to be watchful of. Kids at this age tend to emulate their friends without judging if the situation is dangerous, you need to be careful about this as well.

Dealing with the Mood Swings

She shall now develop better control over her emotions and look more confident while negotiating a situation with peers. However, you must also be prepared for her volatile emotions at times now.
These are results of hormonal changes she is going through. Mood swings are a sign of the onset of puberty. While you may see her in a cheerful mood she may also burst into tears the next moment. Mood swings can increase stress levels that can often get difficult for her to bear with. If you think she is reeling under too much pressure, you can help streamline her home works, deal with physical changes better and help her socialize with her friends. However, you need not worry, as she shall soon outgrow this phase too.
Occasional temper tantrums are natural too. In case you see behavioural changes like eating disorders, do not want to go to school or remains quite, you need to take it seriously. It is important to look for the root cause of her disturbance. You may also have a talk with her teachers in school, if you feel the problem lies with something in her school.
Apart from this, you must always do your best to help her cope with stress better. You can teach her the relaxing techniques like yoga or simple exercises that shall help her feel well. Teaching her self-soothing and relaxing techniques shall only help her through life.
