Pre-Teen's Growth and Development (10 Years, 2-Month-Old)

Behavioural changes shall include a considerable aspect of your child’s overall growth and development. Here we have shared tips on how to handle the changing behaviour of a 10 years, 2-month-old child. Read on.

Your child will not like the idea of constant supervision now and would rather act like an adult. You too need to understand her feelings and respect his or her privacy. You shall see a change in your role as he or she continues to mature and grow.
Here we shall take a look at some of the behavioural changes, growth and development that you can expect in your child now:

Relationships of Child

Let us take a look at how different relationships affect the growth and development of a child.

Peer Pressure

Children now start dealing with peer pressures in their social relationships. They shall appear more concerned about what friends think of them. They shall want to pursue the activity that others are interested in and wear dresses like their friends. They shall develop the habit of following trends now. They shall always feel the desire to fit in.
It is important children have confidence and sense of self control now. This shall help them deal with difficult times better. They shall also have more faith on the activities they love doing. These attributes shall in fact help them stay healthier, happy and morally correct.

Friendships

You will find them interested in making friendships with children of their gender. They may also have a best friend, with whom they may like to share everything. They shall appear more and more particular about their appearance now. When you are out shopping, they shall insist on choosing their own dresses.

Development of Body Image

It is normal for girls of this age to develop negative feelings and insecurities about their looks. You as a parent need to instil the healthy image of a body in her if you are a parent of girl child. You need to ensure she is dieting right (if at all) and is relying on a balanced diet. You must educate her on the importance of staying healthy and fit.

Importance of Hobbies

If you find your child showing interest in a particular activity like music, enrol him or her for the classes. This shall not only make him or her more disciplined, but also keep him or her engaged in a meaningful pursuit. Your kid shall benefit from his or her self esteem boost and shall stay happy.

Asserting Independence

Children of this age shall show greater interest in playing with her friends than spending time with the family. It is a natural development phase when they shall love the idea of thinking independently. They may shift their interest suddenly. For instance, they may suddenly declare their interest in becoming a vegetarian. They may also lose interest in their favourite activity and look for something new.
All these changes shall just be a passing phase and thus you need not be too worried. However, make sure to stay supportive and guide them towards the right direction. Make sure to value their opinions and views, as they too are growing up to independent individuals.
Give them responsibilities that are age appropriate. This shall help boost up their self esteem and she shall respect you more as well. Ask them to lend a helping hand in the kitchen at times. This shall also ensure they spend some time with the daily chores.

Family Values

While they may not like to listen to you all the time, their concepts of right and wrong shall develop with personal experiences. They shall slowly develop their own views about the world around them. They shall develop new perspectives and ways of thinking.
Make sure to reinforce the family values time and again. Guide them to overcome the negative feelings. If you think they have some behavioural issues, you can always have a talk with your doctor. Proper diagnosis shall help figuring out the issues before it is too late.

What behavioural changes can be observed in a 10 years, 2-month-old child? How to handle the changing behaviour of 10 years, 2-month-old child? Why mood swings becomes a common behavioural problem in preteens? Discuss here.
