Role of in-laws:MIL

Name: SAD

I am so hurt by my MIL that even after one year of my baby's birth , I think of things she said and cry . Its awful . I dont know when I will recover from it .
I made the mistake of inviting her during my baby's birth and now I am regretting even marrying my husband every single day . More so because our was a love marriage . I feel he has led me down in every single way .
What should i do ?

Hi,

First of all , be brave my dear. I keep saying this thing to many dil who are hurt because of their in-laws' comments and actions and lack of support from their husbands. Keep one thing in mind- never expect anything from in-laws, specially those in-laws who do not care about their dil's feelings and emotions. The sooner you accept the reality, the better it is for you. Being a dil, who is also hurt by her in-laws, I understand your state of mind. I know ,a woman needs support and a feeling of comfort from her husband specially in these situations. But many men don't understand this thing. A woman , at the time of marriage, leaves her home thinking that atleast her hubby will always be there to help and support her, but when it doesn't happen, she feels hurt. And since yours is a love marriage, you are more hurt, because somewhere in the heart, you are blaming yourself for this. But dear, it happens even in arrange marriages. So don't think much about it and be happy that you are blessed with a sweet kid. Just concentrate on him/her, since he/she needs you the most at this time.
You have not posted your full message, I mean its sort of difficult to understand what you exactly went through? But I assume its the same story that every dil has been experiencing these days. How long have you been married? How old is your baby? Are you in the US? When did your mil come to visit you? What actually happened? I may give you some useful advice if I understand your situation better.

If you work, then count yourself lucky, beacuse you are occupied with something constructive. If you are not, then try to keep yourself busy. I know, taking care of a baby is also a tough job. Talk to your friends, family members if you think your hubby is not giving you the love, attention and support which you want. Things do change with time. Your husband will also understand this thing one day. Have faith in God, everything will be fine.

Good luck.

How to deal with this?

He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
