Hello there. Ive a daughter aged 3 years old and since 1 week, I have seen her stammering or getting stuck at few words. I dont know what has caused this cause prior to this week, she spoke vv fluently. I dont know what to do? are there any home remedies for this problem? I am not in india, so I dont know if any speech therapist is there here. When i go to india, i am planning to go to one but right now please advise what I should do. I am vvv concerned. She stammers at times....not always......pls help me. Will appreciate a response

Hi,

I went thru the same trauma and know the pain. I am in the MIddle East and was working when it happened. I discovered that the maid was not too kind and that the insecurity caused it. Believe me, I took a month off and spent a lot of time with her and after that had family visit and spend time with her for approximately 10 months. It helped and thank God she is perfect today. FYI, She is 7 years old.

I feel for you and know what you are going thru. All the best and may God bless you.

Since she has just started stammering, dont worry too much.Look for a speech therapist in the yellow pages or ask your family doctor to suggest one. What you can immediatly do is pay more attention and patiently listen to what your daughter when she talks to you.Young children dont have the words ready when they communicate and your impatience will hurry her to find her words and hence the stammering.Dont push her to talk to guests and strangers if she does not want to .This also may aggravate the problem. If you have 2 children and both of them talk together at times, make the non-stammering one stop and patiently let the stammering child finish his sentence before the other child can talk. When she realises she doesn't have to hurry to find her words she will hopefully come out of stammering. All the best.
