My girl is attending nursery since 10days. The first 3 days she was more than happy to go to school, but after that the next 3-4 days was a fight to put her into the school bus. slowly she has settled down and though not happily she does get into the bus. the problem is she said somebody was trying to take her juice and things from her bag. when asked her teacher, she denied and when i questioned other elder kids, if that happened in bus, they too denied. Is my kid Lieing to me?
She was a very well behaved kid and hardly threw tantrums. these days she throws tantrums and sits down to cry if we do not get her the things she wants. all these changes are after she started school.the teacher says she is very good at orals and rhymes and activity, but when it is snack time at school she starts crying for me.
the teacher showed us ffew pictures and said that our daughter had done them with the teacher's help. the pics were too neat to be done by her even with help. is the school teacher telling a lie? please comment

vidya replied. Hi savita,
long time since we wrote to each other.I had been on a long trip to Bangkok and Malaysia.Kind of was so near ur country, we stayed in KL and Penang. we were smitten with Penang i must say.Muscat is quite cold these days.
How r things at ur end?
savitha replied. yes, lulu darsait was under construction before i left. came to know abt its opening thru my brother in law who lives in darsait.
health problems are common in muscat, one is weather change(aug/sep), next is closed atmosphere in school due to AC. third fine dust due to sand. if ur house is carpeted, think of removing it. now that winter is setting(it becomes quite chill in the evening times) keep ur daughter's head & chest covered when u go to open areas like beach or park. dew falls worsening respiratory problem. if ur house is not carpeted make her wear slippers at home. as i also suffer from asthama, these suggestions were given by my doc & friends as well. anyway once a child turns 5 yrs, their resistance will automatically increase. so don't worry. lateron you can think of involving her in swimming or someother physical activity.
have you been for dolphin watch from albustan area? this is the season where in dolphins can be seen. enjoy your stay.
stay in touch.
bfn,
savitha.
vidya replied. Good to read ur mails. You guessed it right. I sent her to Gulf nursery for the reason u said. Jibroo is very far. Now ruwi has developed than before. There is a Lulu hypermarket in Darsait, a Lulu like mart has opened in Ruwi itself. There is a huge Babyshop right in MBD(where i live). i am ok to am extent as i get all the Indian stuff here. My kid keeps falling ill here very often due to no reason at all. If season changes then her health goes for a toss. she developed respiratory problems only after coming here. Otherwise as u said this place is definitely Indian friendly. I too have a small friends group and we are planning Diwali party these days.
keep in touch.

vidya replied. thank you savitha .Slowly my girl has settled down to her routine.she even performed in a school concert and won. Infact i had to push her to get back at her tomentors. Now she is lot confident and is again starting to make friends slowly.
What you said about other moms are to an extent true. they do not want to accept their child's mistake and reprimand them.
I live in ruwi.
Where r u now?not in Muscat anymore.
vidya replied. please tell me how to handle this new problem as my girl is very sensitive by nature.the bigger trouble with her is she tells me the naughty things she did at school, also tells me if teacher scolded her or somebody, but never tells me in detail the good things she did at school.
i live in Muscat, where r u from?
vidya replied. thank you both for your views.i do strongly believe now all the paintings were made by her teacher, coz i tried ur own method. i made her colour a drawing and like u said she coloured everywhere except the drawing. the teacher said we did it by holding hands, i tried that at home.i held her hand, but still it did not turn out as neat as the teacher showed us.
now its almost a month and now she is a little settled, but a new problem has arisen. By nature she is very friendly, but she is choosy abt making friends. she goes by bus to school. she loves the time in her school, but hates the bus ride she keeps saying some KG 1&2 boys trouble her by pulling her hair, making faces or tease her. As per her nature she does not fight them back.i spoke to the boys mothers, but she brushed it off saying its her sons nature.i complained to the school authority, they said they will look into it. i am worried how to make my girl more bolder and also am confused as to how to go about this situation, please comment
another mom of 3 yr old replied. I am also facing same problem (throwing tantrums, making fuss going to school) except that my daughter is not able to express what is bothering her at school. I had been to her school one day since she was refusing to go to school. Now a days these new schools have so many activities that its not possible to keep watch on what the children are doing as the teachers are busy trying to complete the activities like painting etc. Also i found that they scold chidren when they mess while having tiffin becuase of which my daughter refuses to have food. They also keep them so busy that they cant play by themselves even for sometime. I really dont know if its correct schooling. I am just waiting and will give her time to settle down otherwise i have to take some action.
Which school are you sending your daughter to.I am sending mine to Eurokids. Where do you live?
hi replied. Abt UR daughters painting/drawing .. I think her teacher is lieing ! This happened even with my son. His teacher showed me paintings like scribbling within a circle or square and paintings etc .. saying he has done it.
When I came home , I asked him to do the same thing .. He scribbled everywhere except the circle :). So i got to know in schools teachers do it and say kids have done it to impress parents. But I never took it so seriously. It happens in many places. So dont bother abt all these things so much.
Regarding tantrums, as school is new place its possible she is taking time to settle down . Give her some more time ! she should be fine !

good to read ur mails.
we do not hv carpet and after coming here we hv been advised by doc not to use perfume, deo, powder, fleece blanket as she has become allergic to all this.
So i hv put her on inhaler or she might develop asthama, my doc said. with that she is in much control.other wise i come from delhi, so bought all her winter clothes for her.
our friends group had planned the Dolphin watch sometime back, but it got postponed, we are planning it again during, Eid holidays.
keep me posted.

hi vidya, i can understand ur plight. it gets colder now. take a few precautions. avaiod going to parks, beaches bare head in early morning or late evening.. esp for ur daughter cover her head & ears as there will be lot of mist. i learnt it hard way. went to beach for early morning walk in december, the 1st yr we were there & landed with a wheeze of my life! never in my life had a breathing truoble like that. at that time i too missed my folks & hated muscat like anything. next yr i knew what to do & things were good from then on.
btw, in jan there will be muscat festival. don't miss it, esp the fireworks in qurum park & also the lazer show. just make sure that all of u are in ur warm clothes & u will enjoy it. also on thrusday & friday, in azahaiba beach they will hv diff shows, sky diving etc. its wonderful. if there r any shows from bollywood, try going to it. i had been once to akshaykumar show, (shahrukh khan was way too expensive:))another yr had been to jatin lalit musical with alka yagnik & abhijeet.
infact lot of actvities will be there during winter months. enjoy ur time. hey, i am missing all that stuff.
heard from friends here that in coming months more rains will be here:( don't know how i will cope up with that.
anyways, stay in touch. my lill' fellow is waking up.

savitha.

good to know that you come from hubli. hv been there couple of times. i am a kannadiga.
hope u hv recovered from stomach infection. finally finished deepavali purchases. here we hv to go to the capital city(1 hr drive) to get good stuff. travelling along with my son is a bit trouble. now a days when we are there he will not sleep at all...wants to see the malls!!! so by the time we reach home he will be really restless.
we r going to bangalore for the festival this time. its a sudden decision as its my mother in law's 70th b day too(my fil will be 75 shortly). so thought of making it to blr this time.

Hi savitha,
Was looking forward to ur mail.Did'nt check mails past 3-4 days as my girl was down again with fever and weezhing. She was kind of happy as she did not hv to go to school.:-)
good to know its ur sons first diwali. Here our group of friends are planning to celebrate diwali together. its going to be fun. here for dussera i had the 9 days vrathas and completed with inviting 9 married(sumanglis) and nine kids for haldi kumkum. I did not go to dandia as my hubby was coming late through dussera. Not just that, i must admit we both hv 2 left legs;-). As in we never tried dancing as we don't hv the instinct for it.
Looking forward to diwali purchases and celebrations.
take care and keep writing

i guess every place has its own problems. here in brunei, problem is tropical weather. since it rains 1 minute & hot the next minute, doctors say that this place is also prone for asthama. also due to frequent forest fires, lot of haze in the atmosphere. i am also taking precautions for my son & myself too!
how was pooja this year? did u go to dandiya dance. we hv never gone there as it is supposed to be too crowded. what plans for diwali? here we may not have parties, but planning to celebrate at home as its my son's 1st diwali. heard that fire crackers are available & we can light them at our house. so planning to buy some :))
thats for now. keep in touch.
bye,
savitha.

i guessed abt gulf nursery because mostly indians staying in & around ruwi send their kids to gulf nursery as distance is not much compared to jibroo school.
brunei is so so,lot of greenery & rains. as we are not staying in the capital city of brunei & this place is a small town, sometimes we get bored.but as my son is only 7 mts moving abt is a bit cumbersom & we will stay at home most of the times.
initially i too did not like muscat. it took abt 1 yr for me to adjust, but slowly as friends circle grew we started having a good time there. brunei is not as india frinedly as muscat is. maybe sometime later i too will start liking this place. bfn. have a good time.

hey savitha,
you guess it right. she does go to gulf nursery. i am amazed how u guess it right.how's brunei?how's living there? i am not really fond of muscat as such, so am sure will never miss it once i leave this place. Except the freedom of living a nueclear life and giving my hubby full time which i am after 6 yrs of joint living!otherwise there is not much that keeps me tied to this place. good to know you belonged to this place.
