Hi Girls... even guys are welcome to comment.

I need some advice on something.. I am not sure what to do.

Well the thing is.. my Mom bought me this gold set to wear in my Chundadi ceremony (before wedding)... then after wedding my MIL was going to India to some wedding.. so she borrowed it if she could take my set with her.... she went 1.5 years ago... and last year I was going to some function so asked her back for the set cos I wanted to wear it. She said she cannot find it..I asked her to look for it... and she managed to come with just the earings, not the whole set and says she does not know where it is.
Thats all she says!! I have not worn it since my chundadi ceremony and my parents are not that well off and they struggled to buy it for me.

Therefore my question is - should I ask MIL to replace it or let it go?
I am confused.

Please help.

Hey SR,
How r u doing? Hope u r the same SR met me manytimes on this board .
Sorry dear ,I cant clearly suggest u to waht to do at this moment but wanted to ping u.
In such case,If I were in ur situation, I would have definitely kept quite and would have taken this case as a lesson for not commiting a mistake like believing badly.
Now I have all my jewellary there on my hubby' s request. But manytimes I' m worried about them. Not that I dont believe her.
I had similar experience previously,I had a pattuSaree costed Rs 13,000 and I was pretty sure that I kept it with her . I wore it only once for a function in mil' s home and didnt see later. But last year when I asked for it, she simply said it must be with my mom . I couldnt argue anything because my mom always suggest me to remain silent in such situations. But till now I didnt see that saree. She saw every nook and hook in almirah and said its not there.
Till now, I didnt evn tell this to my hubby. I ddint get a chance to mention it.

But, SR, u can discuss with ur hubby and do what he ask u to do. I guess, in this case he might not be not talking in favour to u.

Keep me posted .Eager to c how u would resolve it and comeout with peace of mind.

Hi

Yes Dia I am the same SR.

I have hinted it to my hubby but he has made no comments back. Looks like he is trying to stay silent.
You know a MIL has no right to do such to things that has been given by the girls parents. She can do whatever to presents her side gift to me.

This is what I was thinking of doing - ask her to look for it once more.. and if she still cannot find it, then I will tell her to keep the earings to as they are no good to me on their own.

Her irresponsible behaviour is really annoying me. Am sure she must have given it to one of her relatives in India.

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
