Role of in-laws:Defiant in-laws equal defiant Grandchild
2006-03-01
Name: Rocky

MY daughter has behavioral problems and it's associated with my in-laws. I took my child to a therapist only to have them give me the third degree (almost accusing me of child-abuse because my daughter acts out/manipulates from what she sees my mother-in law get away with. I found out last year that all those times my daughter spent with the grandmother, she was hurting my child. My mother-in law treats me like dirt in front of my kids while my husband has no clue. When i tell him he doesn't believe me. Now my daughter has learned that it's ok to treat me this way too. I will not let my daughter get away with this behavior so now she evokes sympathy from strangers and acquaintances to discredit me and make me feel bad for not allowing her to get away with things like: stealing, lying, manipulating to obtain items,...ect. THerapist asked me if i was afraid that she lies about me and i said \";that among other things too\";. THings like that can lead to having people think your abusive because it's common to be accused...guilty until proven innocent. That was why i wanted my child to see a therapist so she can learn that it's not right, instead they think i'm hiding something. My daughter did come to my defense, and stated that she wanted to change for the better. But we (daughter and I) mutually dislike the therapy center. Besides changing therapists, is anyone else going through the same thing?

i noticed that you havent got any replies. Not that i have a great reply for ur problem .. but after reading it i felt it was a little unclear, not painting the clear picture, lot of data thrown in bulk (its good to give spaces/breaks to improve readability), and less info such as how long u r married, if u r working, how old is ur child, etc. Such info always helps.

(on a second thought, may be u are not able to get across your problem to people thats why you are not receiving expected responses, probably this is what happened with the therapist too ... i am not sure .. one cant judge from so far and so little information...i m just throwing my thoughts)

He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. We were both wo... - Tina Shah [View Message]
RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

RE:Mother-in-law spoiling my child
hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
RE:Mother-in-law spoiling my child
hello kajal,
stop your negative thinking towards your mother in law, she is your son grand mother too, so if she gave some sweet like sugar to him its just because of her love towards him.... - reshma [View Message]
