Behavioural Problems:need advice soon

Hi, mine is a real major problem. Please, advice me. I feel I have failed in life. Please take time and give your opinion and your suggestions.
My son who is 8yrs old is a very tough guy. Off late, he is not studying at all. He is not completing his notes in school, while all other children in his class are writing. Teachers have told him enough times, but he is just not bothered. He doesn’t mind taking punishments, but does not want to write. At home, he is not studying. He keeps whiling time away by seeing here and there or by playing all the time. He doesn’t have the urge to do things fast. He is very slow in writing. He struggles to join words and read. I mean, he is not able to read any thing aloud like other children. He is not interested in anything. Be it play, studies, drawing, singing, music, games etc., He only wants to while away time without doing anything. Ha yes, he loves watching TV that too only cartoons. He doesn’t even know to play with other kids. He keeps laughing for no reason while other children play properly. What is the problem with him? These problems are from his childhood, not now. Off late he just hates to write. Please tell me some alternatives. I am worried for my son’s attitude.

Do take him to see a doctor, he may be having a learning disability and needs special attention. Yes he could be dyslexic or may be his vision needs to be checked. Or he may just not be happy in school and doesn't like his teachers. Do try to find out as soon as possible.

Shalini is right. It's important to be understanding & not get angry. Ask him why he doesn't like to read. Limit his TV and play with him doing things he enjoys so he knows you undestand him, & he'll be more willing to listen to you. It's very important to read to kids, especially fun stories they are interested in, maybe before bed, or taking turns reading school material with him. Maybe make fun flash cards with words & pictures if he can't read well, and if he likes tv there are good shows like Sesame Street & videos that teach words & stuff. Also, going to a good counselor or pyschologist is important because soemtimes kids have a disorder (even very very intelligent people have them) like dyslexia or even depression. These are things that can be treated once you know they exist. These problems are not your fault! The mnost important thing you can do is be gentle & loving & have a positive attitude. Let him know you thing he's good & that you're proud of him. Good luck & I'll say a prayer for you!

Hi,
I have seen a similar kid in my family who is much older and the problem has now reached alarming proportions as it was not taken care at the stage u r in. There are some kids who have the behavoiur and it gets aggravated the more you force him. You need to let go yourself first so that there is no pressure on him. Then maybe try to see if there is some hidden talent in him which can be enforced. praise him don't crticise him. don't comapre as he himself must be feeling bad that his counterparts are better off. Also, let father speak to him and be his friend. He needs counselling also , maybe discuss with a professional counseller. Don't feel frustrated but work on him , which does not mean more scoldings but more understanding of his behaviour. if ur son is different from other kids try to understand why and help him.
