hello all,

I have one doubt.One of my relatives's son is two and half years old.He has not yet started talking a single word.When we talk to him directly he won't listen to that.( for eg.what is your name,where is your eye,ears etc.)He is hyperactive.But if you scold him then he is understanding that..and won't do any mischievious activites for 5-10 minutes but will again start doing the same after 15 minutes.Then he will cry sometimes unnecessarily also.Whether we need to worry about him now?? or everything will change after sometime?? any suggestion on this??

a 1qaz replied. First of all, some kids don't start talking til about 3. It's important to know whether he understands the speech -- not whether he himself speeks. Can he hear? Try making a loud noise and see if he reacts. Lots of kids are hyperactive & don't listen -- just part of being a child. Here we call it \";the terrible twos\"; :). If you think there may be a more complicated problem try visiting a counselor or pyschologist, or maybe the preschool in the town has one. Most important just make sure he can hear & that he understands things the way a two-year old should. Be patient. Many very smart people start out slowly. The most important thing is the unconditional love & patience of the parents & relatives. Also, sometimes a frightening experience such as the loss of a parent or sibling can disturb a child, in which case it's important to have consistency in his life -- a regular daily schedule and an adult who is warm and caring that is always around & pays lots of positive attention to him & praises him.
