Hey Rashmi,

Dealing with in-laws!

* Never ever talk bad about your MIL to your husband - remember he might believe his Mother, even if she is the bad one, because its his mother!

* Never ever let MIL take care of the house when they are in US. It will come back and bit YOU! Some day or the other, your husband will say, Afterall, she did all the cooking for us! Do evverything good for them in front of your HUSBAND

* Deal with your in-laws when your husband is not home. The first thing is: No one ever want to be treated irrespectfully. If they torture you, give them 0 importance when your husband is away, and give them 110 % when your husband is home. When you treat them bad, they will complain to your husband. But whenever he sees you, you always treat them nice, now your husband doesn't belive his mother/father :-)

All the best

Yes, i too think its good to confront them in front of hubby. But do that very carfully....do it as if u r just clearing a point or issue....don't do as if u r accusing them...then ur hubby will feel bad if u make it was accussing them.....We should be very very tactful as our in-laws are.....

Being open with them, i think is very good approach....that way they own limit with us....they will think before doing or saying something......

Yeah, I agree with you. Don't be afraid, be bold and stand up for your self. Set boundaries with your in-laws that clearly define what is off-limits in your marriage.

You do your part as a good DIL, give them love & respect but if they treat you like dirt, confront them then & there. Don't even wait for your husband. Make it very clear to them- pyar doge to pyar milega, nafrat doge to nafrat milegi.

Even I am going 2 do the same thing when they are here or I go 2 India. I won't keep quiet anymore. They should know we too can speak.

Humari khamoshi ko humari kamzori na samje.

Good luck- keep posting.

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
