Activities to Help Physical Motor Development in Toddlers

Toddlers and preschoolers are seen brimming with energy. It is important to make use of this energy to help proper physical motor development in them. Read on to learn about the activities that can help your child have right and fast development.

Physical development takes place in infants and toddlers as and on time. But, if parents support their children and engage themselves in the activities that help right motor development in their children, they can make everything smooth, fast and enjoyable. The preschool years are perfect for motor development. Between the age of 2 and 5 children learn to run, jump, throw and catch and many more things to do.
Kids learn a lot of things while playing and being engaged in different types of physical activities. They practice various skills that become the building blocks of their physical and mental development. If you participate in your child’s activities you will not only help him in gross motor and fine motor development, but will also have some cherished moments to preserve for life.

Activities that Aid Physical Motor Development

Here are some guidelines for carrying out the activities that help in physical motor development in toddlers.

Playing with Ball

Balls are the cheapest and one of the best toys that every child should be provided with. It is not only entertaining, but also termed as skill building toy. For a toddler it is advisable to buy large balls that are soft and light so that he learns to kick and throw with it. You can use the beach balls and foam rubber balls inside the playroom also. You can even demonstrate and ask your child to toss the ball in the laundry bucket or in a cardboard box so that further and fine development takes place at the earliest.

Playground Activities

Take your child to a playground that is meant for toddlers and let him get on the ladders of the small slides that are designed for toddlers and slide down. Do not compare his speed and coordination with other kids. Every kid is different and the development that takes place is also different. So, let your child enjoy the activity and you take care of his safety and encourage him.

Dance

Dancing is one such activity that is full of fun and teaches and helps children practice a number of skills. So, just put on the music and dance with your child so that he finds that it is an activity that he is doing with his best friend, his mother or father.

Playing with Sand

Children love to play in and with sand. You can let your child enjoy the time and explore making sand toys and doing all sorts of manipulation.

Playing with Water

Let your child have some fun time in his pool. This will not only help him enjoy playing in water, but also learn swimming and some other water activities. He will enjoy splashing water in the pool and with a running hose he will run and touch water.

Household Chores

If you involve your child in putting off things brought from grocery store or vegetables, you will be able to teach him the names of items and vegetables and help him develop some fine motor skills also.
You will find that large motor skills develop fast and as soon as your toddler learns to walk, you will find fast development in him. This is the reason why children between the age of 2 and 4 do not like to sit still. They spend most of their time running, jumping, kicking and reaching. However, it is advisable to help your child learn to sit also and this you can do with the help of some activities mentioned above that help in fine motor development.
