This is a very nicely written article, and you have enumerated the pros and cons of a boarding school in an easy to understand manner. In India, parental attitudes and perspectives have undergone dramatic changes over the years, and they are now becoming increasingly willing to let their sons and daughters become independent and self-sufficient at an early age. That being said, a boarding school provides children with not just the highest standards of education, but a host of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. I came across a very interesting article about how boarding schools give children a complete education, and what really stood out to me was the fact that children with a boarding school education tend to fare better in university and their professional lives. These days parents are very selective in choosing the right school for their children in terms of quality education, co-curricular activities, facilities, etc. They want their children to attend a school that exposes them to various extra-curricular activities from an early age, besides the basic education. My daughter have been studying at Candor International School since 3 years and we can see great progress in them. Their performance has not just improved academically but also in activities.

i attended the academy at ivy ridge from december 3rd 2002 until augutst 11th 2003. it wus the worst 8 and a half months of my life. i saw many kids abused through over excessive restraints by staff and administration literally beat kids in separate rooms. geroge tulip, "chef dave" and mr. finlinson where the most feared people in the building. the academy at ivy ridge is a scam for desperate parents money. i never really recieved any credit for all the classes i completed there and i was way behind my peers reguular curriculum at home so no wi am struggling in school. i believe that air has given me a new persepective on life and how it was in there but really nobody shoudl be subjected to that and i am still goin through therapy now to get closure with myself and air.

both good and bad exist with boarding school. be sure that you are sending your child to an environment that is exactly what you expect. we sent our daughter to brenau and regret ever doing so. she has been exposed to people that we would never let her associate with. worst of all the school wants no parental evolvement and the staff is less than supportive of the students. emotionally they are on their own, learn self doubt and to trust nobody. so if you don't care about your child and want to get rid of them...... send them to brenau!

who better to care for a child than his parents? no boarding school can provide the love, nurturing, and watchful eye of a parent, or provide teaching in the cultural values, which i believe are important. education is certainly very important, but i will relocate to be near excellent schools rather than send my child away.

boarding school and behavior modification facilities are different things that will be intermingled to ease a parents mind. anyone who has no involvement or knowledge in the field of this must be educated. making a decision to send a child away is life changing. you will worry and the people holding your child will ease your pain with words if you cannot speak with your child. if you are not allowed to see or talk to your child there is a problem. it is your child. if something is wrong can they contat you... no. "they are bettering themselves" no they are creating a independent state in their mind to where they need nobody but themselves, but not all will reject the presence of other beings, some will. ladies and gentlemen who took the time to read this. dont give up on your kids. show them love. stay educated, try to guide them. dont give up on them. cuz if you make that decision thats what it is what ever way you put it. its like a broken tv, you cant fix it so you send it away to get it fixed. is that what you think of your kids. you must be the tv repair man/woman. i am numb to pain from my parents journey but learned to cope and deal. help your kids.

boarding schools offer a lot to most children but a parent needs to visit a school and talk to as many current pupils as they can to get a proper picture of the school. it is briliant for most children and an experience that most love after the first 2 weeks.

okay, i see many of you on here want to send your kids away when they're like 6 years old!! thats crazy, you should never do that to children that young, we are living in the 21st century here people. i think if your going to send them away at least wait until they are 13 or 14, and if your child really does not want to be sent away, then let them stay, they won't do better if they dont want to do better.i am going to boarding school next year (on my own accord)and im 16, but i also need some help, i have good friends here and my school is okay, but i want the experience of boarding school, do you think i should go or stay?

dear ladies and gentlemen, i know it seems as though you have lost all hope. you feel like you're never going to get through to your children again. it's like you're in one country, and they're in another. but don't send your children to a boarding school. talk to them, be realistic, show you care. stop spending all your time at work and pay a little attention to them. listen to them. i have been victim of a boarding school. it was called the academy at ivy ridge. it is basically a very large money scam. jason finlinson does not care about your children. you will be lied to and manipulated. the children are abused, practically starved, disrespected, and neglected. and if they are to say anything about it in a letter home, the letter gets thrown away. state-run juvenile detention centers are not the answer, either. in fact, they are even worse with abuse. i find myself, as well as many others i have spoken to, would have been much better off not being sent away to places like these. i am now 20 years old. i was sent away for 2 years when i was 15 years old. i am okay now. kids are going to experiment, and mess up a little bit at times. usually they want acceptance and need some attention. so make sure you give it to them. just don't give up on your children. sending them away is just another example of out-of-sight, out-of-mind.

we are looking for a good indian boarding school for my 13 yr old son ,who is actually dying to go!we would miss him but feel his chances in the british education system are low.there are too few good state schools in our area, and private school fees are beyond our means. indian boarding schools also do i.g.c.s.es,( log on to woodstock ordehra dun schools),also have kids from many nationalities-what have we got to lose?education system here is falling to bits, theres no discipline or respect for teachers...

if both parent are working and nobody to look after ur kid its better to send them to boarding school than to leave them to any nanny. but of course d school u are sending should be good enough to take care of ur child, d teachers there should be humble and disciplined. provided ask your child whether he or she wants to go to boarding, their interest should be the first priority.

please never consider sending a child under the age of 12 to a boarding school. they are too young, and they need the love, support and guidance of thier parents to give them a good foundation in their lives. academic achievement is not everything in life. living a life of self-acceptance, courage, awareness, compassion: being equipped to make decisions around values in life, that is the most importnt. any school that discourages parents involvement is to be avoided. look at the kids in the school: are they happy? is there a good sense of community? transparency regarding discipline etc? there are soem fantastic schools such as the united world colleges, all over the world..truly great schools, but also many horrific instituitons that cna do untold damage to your child. rule of thumb- some kids thrive at boarding school, others don't. listen to them, and what is their highest truth...

my 9 year old started boarding at an excellent boarding school and he comes home every weekend. his studies has improved in leaps and bounds and he has learnt so many different sports and has excellent manners and is becoming cultured in proper gentlemanly ethics. some boys need constant stimulation with sports and other activities and dilworth fits the bill. parents are active in school activities and its like having the best of both worlds.
