Benefits of Water During Pregnancy

Water During Pregnancy

Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is very beneficial during pregnancy. Find out the healthy benefits of drinking lots of water during pregnancy and how to enhance your water intake.

You need water, at least eight glasses per day to keep healthy; this is an advice to swear by when you are expecting. It is extremely important to keep your body hydrated when you are pregnant. At the initial state the prime components of the baby’s body is mostly fluid, which is also yours. So it is natural that you will need more and more water as the baby gains weight and grows every week. It is indeed plenty of hard work for your system to keep the growing baby in great healthy and this requires an adequate hydration on your part. Here are just a few points on how having adequate water benefits your body during pregnancy:

Benefits of Water for Pregnant Women

Let us have a look at why having plenty of water is necessary for pregnant women.

Helps in Flushing Out the Toxins

Toxins are meant to be flushed out of your system and that of your baby’s as well. Water serves this purpose. You can get rid of all the toxic waste of your body simply by drinking enough water.

Ease Many Pregnancy Symptoms

Water intake helps in easing out a lot of symptoms associated with pregnancy like fatigue and constipation. Adequate intake of water helps one in getting rid of them and even prevents a host of associated symptoms from showing up. Staying hydrated helps in effectively reducing the swelling of the feet too.

Reduce Infections of the Urinary Tract

When you are well hydrated you can prevent the development of urinary tract infections that many women tend to suffer from during pregnancy.

Reduce the Risk of Early Labour

Adequate hydrated system is a well protecting guard against the potential risk of running into a preterm labour.

Improves the Skin

The glow on your skin is derived from a well hydrated system. So what people refer to as the pregnancy glow, can be attributed to adequate water intake that keeps all the vital organs in your body well hydrated and this includes the suppleness of your skin too.

Options and Alternatives for Your Taste Buds

It is often noticed that although one is aware of the immense health benefits of drinking plenty of water, but one can feel very bored of consuming plain water. So the water intakes drops and you happen to experience the symptoms of dehydration and other issues related to lack of adequate water intake. So you can easily look for options where you can enhance your water intake by making your fluids tasty and thereby ensuring that the total fluid intake in your body remains unaffected.

You can opt for a glass of milk which will also up your calcium intake, as it is a mix of calcium and two-thirds of water. Or, you can get yourself some of your favourite fruit juice concentrates. Remember this is a reference to the home made ones and not the canned variety. Blend fresh fruits in a blender, strain it and have it with a spoon of honey if you want or just an ice cube or two. It is a great hydrating drink that is refreshing and very healthy. This fruit juice can also be supplemented by some veggie blend drink as well.

Just keep in mind that staying hydrated does not mean that you can take in mindless calories in the form of sodas and aerated drinks. They are bad for health and even more when you are pregnant. You should look for healthy hydrating options that help your system to stay healthy and fit.
