Tips for Soothing a Crying Baby

There are lots of reasons why babies may cry. Babies may cry due to wet diapers, due to hunger or even due to uneasiness. It is easy to soothe babies if parents know why babies are crying. Read on to find tips for soothing crying babies.

When you were pregnant, you longed to have your bundle of joy in your arms. You might have never thought how much noise a 10-pound human can cause. Well, newborn babies cry often. Most of the time there is a reason behind crying.

Since the infant cannot speak you need to find out what the reason might be. This makes parents feel inadequate especially when they are unable to soothe a crying baby.

Ways to Soothe a Crying Baby

The best thing that new parents can do is to stay calm. Most often the child will follow suit.

  • Feed the baby
  • Hold him
  • Take him outside
  • Talk to your child
  • Make eye contact
  • Sing or hum to him
  • Hold him close, kiss him and tell him how much you love him
  • Rock him gently
  • Use soothing sound or music

Some Other ways to Soothe the Baby

  • Check baby’s temperature
  • Change the way you are holding your child
  • Hold your infant and dance
  • Undress your infant and check clothes and body
  • Take him away from over-stimulating atmosphere
  • Distract the child

Most often it is observed that just by paying a little bit of attention and holding your baby you calm him down. However, there can be various reasons behind child crying. Remember, the child is unable to convey his message or problem to you. However, by crying he attracts the attention of almost everyone and so he tries to cry as soon as he needs something.

It has been observed that continuous typical sound soothes infants. It also depends on what the day has been for your child as he might be suffering from gas or might be lying on bed for most of the time and needs some outing and fresh air. However, the first thing that you should check is your baby’s diaper and clothes.

Try the tips given above one by one and remember you need to stay calm unless there is anything very serious. Sometimes you might not make out any reason why your baby is crying and you need expert advice. This is the time when you can see a pediatrician so that he checks out whether the child is fine health wise.

Sometimes the baby cries just because of the temperament. Some babies get irritated and upset very easily and start crying. Usually the mother’s feelings and nature also affects a baby’s mood. A mother who is anxious or depressed most often is also a cause behind crying baby.

Though there are many reasons and the above tips could help you calm your baby, the best way is to understand your child and his cry. As you know your child better, you will be easily able to distinguish between a cry that is out of irritation or your child is suffering from any problem or pain.

Find out the reason and then rectify it. Make sure you convey a message most often to your child that you love him. This not only helps boost and strengthen the bonding but also saves your child from crying often.
