Doctors advise pregnant women to consume nuts, fruits and vegetables so that their body could get required nutrients needed during pregnancy. Raisins, like many other dry fruits, contain lots of valuable nutrients that are good to keep mother and baby healthy. However, raisins must be consumed in moderation during pregnancy. Excessive consumption of raisins may not be safe.

Harmful Effects of Eating Raisins during Pregnancy

Many pregnant women get gestational diabetes which gets resolved after the birth of the child but in few, it continues. Too much eating of raisins during pregnancy may lead to overweight baby and during delivery it could cause complications. If mother get gestational diabetes then chances of type 2 diabetes in the baby is increased. So, pregnant women must get in touch with their obstetrics and dieticians before they include raisins in their diet chart.

Can I Eat Raisins during Pregnancy?

Many pregnant women are apprehensive about their diet chart during their pregnancy period. Most of the would-be mothers are not very sure about the kind of food they should eat when they are expecting. Raisins are considered as one of the healthy fruits that a pregnant woman can consume without hesitation. The amount of raisins a would-be mother can have daily can be suggested by her healthcare provider only.

Studies have not shown that consumption of raisins during pregnancy can cause any severe damage to the would-be mother and the child but too much eating of raisin may lead to some health problems. If a pregnant woman has history of diabetes or is suffering from gestational diabetes then it is better to restrict consumption of raisins.

Yes, it is indeed very good to eat raisins during pregnancy but overconsumption must be avoided. Raisins are good source of quick energy. Moreover, raisins are loaded with lots of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fibres etc. which are must-to have for the would-be mothers. Raisins can be consumed directly or can be used to add more taste to any dish especially cakes, muffins, buns, breads, chocolates, porridges etc.

Benefits of Eating Raisins during Pregnancy

Fibres present in raisins help the pregnant women to combat their constipation problems. Regular eating of raisins during pregnancy helps in smoothing the bowel movement. Raisins are helpful in increasing appetite and curbing morning sickness as they contain lots of potassium and magnesium.
During pregnancy, many women suffer with gingivitis or swollen gum. When raisins are taken on regular basis, they keep teeth and gums healthy because raisins have oleanolic acid in them.
A pregnant women experience lots of changes within her body. These changes may cause lots of stresses in her and later on she may get prone cardiovascular or other problems. As raisins have anti-oxidant properties, it is helpful in distressing the pregnant woman.
Consumption of raisins helps in boosting the body energy as they contain high sugar content. Raisins have calcium which helps in the bone development of the foetus. Raisins being rich in Vitamin A are good for developing eyesight of the unborn baby.
Raisins are helpful in strengthening the body immune system. Those pregnant women who consume raisins on regular basis can cope with the changes happening in her body during pregnancy and immediately after the child birth. Different types of benefits offered by raisins have made it a must-to-have fruit for the pregnant women. However, as each pregnancy is unique, you must make sure to talk to your doctor before including raisins in your diet.
