A Guide to Buying the Perfect Stroller

A Guide to Buying the Perfect Stroller

Want to take your baby out with you for a breath of fresh air? The most comfortable way to do that is using a stroller. Here's a guide on how to buy the right stroller.

When the time comes to take your baby out for some fresh air, there are a number of ways to do it in style. There are mainly three modern options to carry your baby around. These are strollers, baby carriers, and trailer bikes.
A stroller is a convenient way to cart your child around parks, and to take him out for a breath of fresh air. It is a pushable chair that has a padded seat with seatbelts and occasionally a protective hood that will keep your child safe from the elements. A baby carrier is similar to a sling or backpack that you can wear to carry your baby around, while keeping your hands free at the same time. Indians have traditionally used a less fashionable sling made out of a long sheet of cloth. A baby trailer bike builds on the idea of a stroller, though it is meant to be attached to a cycle and towed along for rides.
The most popular of these options is the baby stroller. It is not only easily available, but comes in a number of different models and sizes. With the variety of options available, buying the right stroller may be a difficult choice. Here are a few options that you can take into consideration when purchasing a stroller.

Safety features

The safety features of a stroller are probably the most important thing to take into consideration. As a parent you will want to feel assured that your baby is safe and secure in the stroller, as you are out on your walk or trip. Some of the safety features include the basic design of the stroller. See whether the stroller is stable. A stroller that seems to be top heavy, or instable, may just topple over. Check by hanging something from the strollers handles such as an umbrella or a diaper bag. Examine the quality of the baby harness. If you plan to use the stroller a lot, then a five-point harness that drapes over a baby or young child's shoulders is a must. For occasional or short trips, a three-point harness will suffice.

Size does matter

Strollers come with weight and size ratings. It is important to take your baby's size into consideration when purchasing a stroller. Today there are extendable strollers that can grow with a child.
Another important size-related decision is the amount of space that the stroller occupies. For a family that has storage constraints, it would be wise to buy a collapsible or foldable stroller. Today there are even strollers that can accommodate two to three children of different sizes.

Convenience features

Some strollers come with built-in convenience features like a storage basket under the main seat. There are even a number of pockets to facilitate parents to carry snacks, toys, and drink holders. These pockets and carriers are essential, as parents always require to carry certain essentials with them when they go out with their child. Opt for a stroller with a rain hood, as it will also help in shading your baby from harsh sunlight.
Today there are some strollers that are built as complete carrying solutions. They are able to transform themselves into car seats and infant carriers. This kind of convertibility gives added value and multifunctional capabilities to the stroller. Look for strollers that can become forward facing car seats or booster seats for older children as they prove to be more value for money in the long run.

Try before you buy

Buying strollers is like buying shoes. You need to try one to get a feel of it. Push the stroller around the store to see how comfortable you are with it. Check to see the height of the handles of the stroller. Tall parents may want to purchase a stroller with adjustable handle bars. Handles that are foam covered will be comfortable in the long run. Try to walk at different paces to see if you collide with the strollers wheels. Simulate sharp turns to see if the stroller has any problems turning corners quickly.
